Texas has plenty of wineries, but there is something extra fun about sipping a tasting while a whole field of grapevines stretches out in front of you. The six spots on this list all give you a porch, deck, or patio where the vineyard rows are the main view.
Some sit deep in the Hill Country, others hide out in East Texas near small towns you might drive right past. If you like the idea of a slow afternoon with a great view, these are the places to save.
1. Pedernales Cellars, Stonewall, TX
Spread across more than 140 scenic acres, this family-run boutique winery gives you a lot of room to breathe. The property sits on Upper Albert Road in Stonewall, a small rural farming and winemaking community in Gillespie County.
The shaded deck is the star here. It looks out over the panoramic estate grounds, so you can settle in and take in the view while you work through a tasting.
Beyond the pour, there are cellar tours if you want to see how things come together behind the scenes. It is a nice way to add a little learning to a relaxed visit.
Hours run Monday through Thursday from 10 AM to 5 PM, Friday and Saturday until 6 PM, and Sunday from noon to 5 PM. Saturday afternoons get busy, so a weekday morning is your best bet for a quiet table.
Dogs are welcome, which makes it an easy stop if your pup is riding along.
2. Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards, Pittsburg, TX
Driving in through the vines is unusual for this part of East Texas, and it sets the tone before you even park. Los Pinos sits off County Road 1334 near Pittsburg, a small rural town well east of the Hill Country crowd.
What makes this one different is that it doubles as a relaxed steakhouse. The patio overlooks the vineyard, and the kitchen turns out wood-fired pizza, bruschetta, chicken fried steak, and a creme brulee for dessert.
The winery manages its own estate-grown grapes and bottles its wines on site, so the tasting packages are worth doing if you want the full picture. Live music, a fireplace, and a strong dessert lineup round out the experience.
Hours are limited, so plan ahead: closed Monday through Wednesday, open Thursday 4 to 9 PM, Friday 4 to 10 PM, Saturday noon to 10 PM, and Sunday 11 AM to 4 PM. Reservations are accepted, and parking is free and usually easy to find.
3. Torr Na Lochs Vineyard & Winery, Burnet, TX
Perched along State Highway 29 in Burnet, this winery leans into its hilltop setting. Burnet is a small scenic town in the Hill Country, close to the Highland Lakes, and the elevation here pays off in the views.
The tasting room is indoors, but the real draw is the expansive outdoor seating. Open-air porches and patios face the vineyard plantings and the rolling country beyond, so you can spread out and stay awhile.
Everything poured here is made from 100 percent Texas grown grapes, which is a point of pride for the place. If you like knowing your glass came from Texas soil, this is a good match.
A couple of quick notes before you go: pets and smoking are not allowed, so leave the dog at home for this one. Hours are Tuesday through Thursday noon to 5 PM, Friday and Saturday until 6 PM, and Sunday noon to 5 PM.
Weekend afternoons fill up fast, while a Tuesday afternoon stays calm.
4. Chapelton Vineyards, Washington, TX
Just over an hour from Houston, Chapelton brings a modern look to a very historic corner of Texas. The winery sits in Washington, a small town with deep roots in Texas heritage, on a 75-acre estate.
Fourteen of those acres are planted with Blanc du Bois, Tempranillo, and Merlot. The contemporary architecture pairs with outdoor porch and patio seating that looks straight across the rows.
Tastings here are seated, and you can add a guided vineyard experience if you want to walk the grounds and learn about the grapes. Seasonal events and private hosting are part of the mix too, so it works for both a quiet visit and a bigger gathering.
Plan around the schedule: open Monday 11 AM to 6 PM and Thursday through Sunday 11 AM to 6 PM, with Tuesday and Wednesday closed. Parking is free, and the countryside setting makes it an easy day trip from the city.
5. Portree Cellars, Johnson City, TX
Tastings under oak trees give this boutique winery a different feel from the rest of the list. Portree Cellars is family-owned and sits on Ranch to Market Road 1320 in the Johnson City and Hye area, a rural Hill Country enclave.
The wines are made from estate-grown varietals like Tannat, Fiano, Mourvedre, and Aglianico, along with grapes sourced from the High Plains and Hill Country. That lineup leans into lesser-seen grapes, which is a treat if you like trying something new.
The modern tasting room opened in December 2023, and the winery has already picked up recognition at competitions including the San Francisco Chronicle Wine, TEXSOM, and Texas Monthly. The indoor and outdoor spaces both take in vineyard views.
Hours are Monday 11 AM to 5 PM, Thursday noon to 5 PM, Friday and Saturday 11 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday noon to 5 PM, with Tuesday and Wednesday closed. Dogs are welcome, and parking is free on site.
6. Augusta Vin, Fredericksburg, TX
Minutes from downtown Fredericksburg, Augusta Vin makes it easy to pair a winery visit with a day in one of the Hill Country’s most popular small towns. Fredericksburg carries a strong German heritage, and this winery sits just outside the action on Augusta Vin Lane.
The big draw is the view. Expansive exterior porches and patio spaces look directly across a 60-acre vineyard, so you can sip while the rows stretch out in front of you.
Tastings are seated, and there is plenty to add on if you want more. Options include winery and production tours, barrel tastings, and food pairings.
Open every day, with hours Monday through Thursday noon to 5:30 PM, Friday noon to 6:30 PM, Saturday 11 AM to 6:30 PM, and Sunday noon to 6:30 PM. Saturday afternoons are the busiest, while Monday evening is the calmest.
Parking is free, with a lot, on-site spaces, and street parking available.
