1. Emery’s Farm, New Egypt, NJ
Pumpkin butter might be the sleeper hit of the season, and Emery’s Farm keeps it stocked alongside its baked goods. The farm sits on Long Swamp Road in New Egypt, a quiet stretch of Ocean County farm country.
The operation leans heavily into farming, with pies, preserves, donuts, and muffins all coming out of the on-site bakery. Fall brings pumpkin donuts and caramel apple cookies, which make an easy pairing for a car snack.
Beyond pumpkin, the Trifecta Pie is a standout on the menu, and blueberries show up in several forms, including a Blueberry Ice Cream Donut and blueberry preserves. Local honey rounds out the shelves.
I would save this stop for a quick weekday run. It is takeout only with no dine-in, and there is a free parking lot on site.
Hours run 9 AM to 6 PM every day of the week, and most visits cost about $10 to $20 per person.
2. Hacklebarney Farm Cider Mill, Chester, NJ
Here is a practical tip first: pumpkin cider donuts at Hacklebarney tend to go fast, so an earlier arrival helps. The farm sits on State Park Road in Chester, right in the rolling hills of Morris County.
This is an active cider mill with a bakery and farm market on site. Apple cider donuts and pumpkin donuts share the spotlight, and the pies are known for a notably buttery crust.
Fall brings a full lineup outside too. Visitors can pick their own apples and pumpkins, wander a corn maze, and grab fresh cider.
Cider hot dogs are a fun, unusual item on the menu, and farm-fresh eggs are sold as well.
Plan around the schedule. The mill is closed Monday through Wednesday and open Thursday to Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM, with free on-site parking.
3. Battleview Orchards, Freehold, NJ
The name hints at history, since this Freehold farm sits in the area near the Monmouth Battlefield. Today the action is mostly at the pie counter.
Battleview Orchards runs a quaint country store on a family farm. Shelves hold fruit, pies, cider donuts, and seasonal apple cider.
What sets it apart is the fruit. Pies are made with produce grown on the family’s own nearby farms, and the orchards grow apples, peaches, nectarines, and strawberries.
Pick-your-own season has included three types of peaches and three types of apples.
Jersey Fresh vegetables fill out the store, so a pie run can double as a grocery stop.
Weekend afternoons are the busiest, especially Saturday and Sunday. Weekday mornings are calmer.
The store is open 9 AM to 6 PM every day except Tuesday.
4. Wightman Farms, Morristown, NJ
Farming in Morristown since 1922 gives Wightman Farms more than a century of practice, and the pie selection shows it. The market and cider mill sit along Mt Kemble Avenue and stay open year-round.
Pies are the headliner here. The selection is large, and the homemade options sit next to specialty sauces and jams.
Prices run a bit higher, but the quality backs it up.
Fall weekends add a giant corn maze, apple picking, and hayrides from September through October, from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. Pick-your-own fields and orchards open weekends from May through October.
The farm grows strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cherries, peaches, several apple varieties, and sweet corn with a strong local following. A CSA box share runs May through September.
The market is open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM, with on-site parking.
5. Demarest Farms, Hillsdale, NJ
Founded in 1886, Demarest Farms is still a working farm, which makes it one of the older stops on this list. It sits on Werimus Road in Hillsdale, in northern Bergen County.
The farm store stocks a wide spread of homemade goods. Expect donuts and sweets, applesauce, jellies and jams, honey, pickled goods, sauces, spices, and fresh apple cider.
Families get plenty to do. Pumpkin picking includes a hayride around the orchard, and a petting zoo costs $5 per person.
The store also offers a salad bar, coffee, toys, candy, and a seating area. That makes it easy to turn a donut stop into a longer outing.
Hours are 8 AM to 5 PM daily. Restrooms and a free parking lot are available.
6. Johnson’s Corner Farm, Medford, NJ
With 100 acres to roam, Johnson’s Corner Farm gives a pumpkin run a little more room to stretch out. The farm sits on Church Road in Medford, in Burlington County.
The store covers produce, baked goods, pies, and homemade items. It also handles holiday and country store shopping, so it works for gifts as well as dessert.
Outside, hayrides and pumpkin picking lead the fall lineup. Pick-your-own fruits and flowers run through much of the year, which keeps the farm busy outside of autumn too.
I like this one for evening plans. It stays open until 7 PM Monday through Saturday and until 8 PM on Sunday, opening at 8 AM each day.
Restrooms are on site, and parking includes a free lot and free street parking.
7. Delicious Orchards, Colts Neck, NJ
Route 34 drivers in Monmouth County know the Delicious Orchards sign well, and many families have been stopping for decades. It is a Colts Neck institution with generations of loyal shoppers.
The building combines a store, bakery, deli, and orchard. Pies and jams sit near fresh produce, organic products, and prepared foods.
The bakery counter is the big draw in fall. Apple cider donuts are a regular hunting target, and the cider itself has a devoted following.
Timing helps here. Saturday and Sunday afternoons get crowded, while weekday mornings are much calmer.
The store is closed Mondays and open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:30 AM to 6 PM. Restrooms, in-store pickup, and free parking are available.
8. Duffield’s Farm Market, Sewell, NJ
Lunch and dessert can happen in one stop at Duffield’s, since the deli sits right alongside the bakery. This family-run market is in Sewell, down in Gloucester County.
The bakery is packed with treats. Many local families order their celebration cakes here, and the apple cider doughnuts are a fall favorite.
The deli serves sandwiches, soups, and lunch meats. Fresh vegetables and hand-picked produce fill the market, and pick-your-own crops plus a petting zoo round out the farm.
Duffield’s also offers curbside pickup, in-store pickup, and delivery, which is rare for a farm market.
Hours are 9 AM to 7 PM Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday. Saturday afternoons are the busiest, so weekday evenings are a smart window.
