Some Of Florida's Best Pulled Pork Hides At These 6 Gas Station Barbecue Counters

Some of the best barbecue in Florida comes with a fuel pump out front. Across the state, gas stations and old service stations are hiding counters that serve slow-smoked pulled pork, brisket, and ribs good enough to plan a road trip around.

These spots skip the fancy dining rooms and put all the effort into the meat and the sides. If you like your sandwich piled high and your lunch stop easy to find, this list of six gas station barbecue counters is one to save for your next drive.

1. Pearl Country Store & Barbecue, Micanopy, FL

Plenty of people pull into Pearl Country Store for gas and leave with a bag of brisket. It sits right on Highway 441 in Micanopy, and the setup almost feels backward, as if the pumps were added to serve the barbecue crowd.

The menu covers pulled pork sandwiches, beef brisket, ribs, rotisserie smoked chicken, and chicken tenders. Sides lean Southern, with slaw and macaroni and cheese among the regulars, and the portions are known for being generous.

Doors open at 6 AM every day, so breakfast and coffee are part of the deal too. Hours run until 7 PM Monday through Thursday and 8 PM Friday through Sunday.

Shaded picnic tables outside make a good spot for lunch, and dogs are welcome in the outdoor area. Service is at the counter, reservations are not taken, and most meals land in the $10 to $20 range per person.

2. Truckers Smokehouse & Deli, Port St. Lucie, FL

Early risers on the Treasure Coast have a strong reason to skip the drive-thru. Truckers Smokehouse and Deli opens at 6 AM on weekdays inside a gas station on Commerce Centre Drive, serving breakfast before the smoked meats take over.

Lunch is where the barbecue shines. Platters of slow-smoked meat include moist pulled pork and tender brisket, and the brisket sandwich and BBQ pork sandwich are easy picks.

Creamy mac and cheese and well-seasoned French fries round out the plates. There is even a meatball sandwich for anyone in the group who wants a break from smoke.

Plan around the schedule, since weekend hours are shorter at 7 AM to 2 PM. Weekday service runs until 6 PM, and the counter tends to be busiest on Tuesday and Wednesday.

3. Crydermans Barbecue, Cocoa, FL

A former service station a short walk from Cocoa Village’s main drag now runs on wood fire instead of fuel. Crydermans Barbecue kept the old building’s character and turned it into one of Brevard County’s more distinctive lunch stops.

Ordering happens at a counter, and seating is at wooden picnic tables. The pulled pork is succulent, and the pork sandwich is a strong reason to come, though the brisket, ribs, sausage with a little heat, and turkey all have fans.

Sides include collard greens, coleslaw, and smoky baked beans. Expect around $20 to $30 per person.

Crydermans is closed Mondays and open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 AM to 6:30 PM. Saturday afternoons get busy and there is usually a wait, so a weekday visit is the calmer move.

Dogs are welcome too.

4. Big Dogs BBQ, Grant-Valkaria, FL

Road kill potatoes are on the menu, and that alone tells you Big Dogs BBQ has some personality. This no-frills pit station operates in a gas station parking lot along US-1 in Grant-Valkaria.

The Pulled Pork Samage comes with a choice of sweet or tangy sauce. Other big hitters include whole racks of beef ribs, half briskets averaging about 5 pounds, and large smoked turkey legs with your choice of sauce.

Sides like coleslaw and collard greens fill out the tray. Food is cooked to order and comes out fast, and prices typically fall between $10 and $20.

Seating is outdoors and dog friendly, but there is no restroom on site, so plan accordingly. It opens daily, with Saturday starting earliest at 10:30 AM.

5. Smokin’ D’s BBQ, St. Augustine, FL

Most St. Augustine visitors stay near the historic district, but barbecue fans head south to a corner lot on FL-206. Smokin’ D’s BBQ works out of rustic, compact quarters and keeps things simple with counter service.

Pork sandwiches here are smoked until super tender, and the Pork Special is a menu staple. Thick ribs, brisket sandwiches, and smoked turkey are also on offer.

Sauce is part of the fun, with a Memphis sweet sauce that pairs well with almost everything. Mustard potato salad, crisp slaw, and big portions of baked beans make solid sides.

The schedule is easy to remember: 11 AM to 7:30 PM every day. Outdoor seating allows dogs, and most meals cost $10 to $20 per person.

6. Buc-ee’s-Daytona, FL, Daytona Beach, FL

More than 150 gas pumps line the lot at Buc-ee’s in Daytona Beach, and the store inside is closer to a supermarket in size than a typical gas station. It is open 24 hours, which makes it an easy stop day or night.

The barbecue counter is the main draw for many drivers. Workers keep fresh sliced and pulled sandwiches coming nonstop, so a hot pulled pork sandwich is ready for the road with almost no wait.

Beyond barbecue, shelves hold jerky, popcorn, snacks, and souvenirs. Clean restrooms are a big part of the brand’s reputation.

Practical extras include a car wash, diesel, propane exchange, an air pump, and an ATM. I would save this one for long drives on I-95 when a quick barbecue fix beats a sit-down meal.
