Some meals are only half finished until a slice of pie shows up. Arizona has a surprising number of places that take pie seriously, from old highway cafés to tiny shops that bake a handful of flavors and sell out fast.
This list covers six of them, spread from the Prescott pines to the Tucson foothills, with stops for road trippers and city folks alike. Some serve full meals with pie on the side, while others do pie and very little else.
A few keep short hours, so the details below can save you a wasted trip. Whether you lean toward fruit, cream, meringue, or something savory, there is a slice here with your name on it.
Grab a fork and start planning which one comes first.
1. Rock Springs Café, Black Canyon City, AZ

Plenty of I-17 travelers have pulled off the freeway for gas and left with a whole pie on the passenger seat. Rock Springs Café sits right off the highway in the small desert community of Black Canyon City, and its pie case is a big part of the reason people stop.
The café is known for homemade pies in a wide range of flavors. Apple Crumb, Cherry Crumb, Lemon Meringue, Strawberry Rhubarb, and Tennessee Lemon all show up on the menu, and there is a separate pie shop on site for grabbing one to go.
Dinner here leans hearty. Steaks, chicken, sandwiches, and the famously unusual calf fries come in generous portions, so saving room takes some planning.
The setting is part of the fun. It is a historic café with a fireplace, mountain views, and a garden where a natural stone staircase leads down to Rock Springs itself.
A gift shop sells homemade salsa and fruit butters, which make easy souvenirs. Hours run daily from 7 AM to 8 PM, and weekends get busy, so a weeknight dessert run is the calmer choice.
2. PIEbar AZ, Strawberry, AZ

Pie you can hold in one hand makes a lot of sense on a mountain drive. PIEbar AZ, on AZ-87 in the tiny Gila County town of Strawberry, specializes in handmade empanadas and hand pies, both sweet and savory.
The savory side covers a full meal. Chicken Pot Pie, Picadillo, Philly Cheesesteak, Mac and Cheese, and Chorizo and Bean are all on the lineup.
Then comes the good part. Apple Dulce de Leche, Strawberry Rhubarb, and a Lemon Bar empanada handle dessert duty, and the strawberry rhubarb is vegan.
There is a nice outdoor seating area, dogs are welcome outside, and the place keeps things casual with counter service. A full vegetarian menu makes it easy for mixed groups.
Timing matters here. PIEbar is open 9 AM to 5 PM and closed Wednesdays, so this works best as an early supper stop or a sweet pickup on the way down the hill from Pine and Payson.
3. Sydney’s Sweet Shoppe, Tucson, AZ

Tucson’s east side has a small, locally owned shop that does one thing very well. Sydney’s Sweet Shoppe on Tanque Verde Road bakes handcrafted pies fresh, along with a rotating mix of other desserts.
The strawberry rhubarb pie earns attention for its pretty top crust and a balance of tart and sweet. The pecan pie keeps its sweetness in check so the nuts actually come through.
Other flavors include Dutch Apple, Cherry, Coconut Cream, Pumpkin, and Blueberry Peach. Slices are available, which is handy for anyone who wants to sample two flavors without committing to a whole pie.
I would treat this one as a planned stop rather than an after-dinner whim. Hours run Wednesday through Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturday until 4 PM, so grab a pie during the day and save it for dessert that night.
Curbside pickup and delivery are both options, and there is a free parking lot.
4. Berry’s Pie Pantry, Prescott, AZ

Meringue fans, this is your stop. Berry’s Pie Pantry near downtown Prescott offers Banana Meringue, German Chocolate Meringue, and Sour Cream Lemon Meringue, which is a lineup that is hard to find elsewhere.
The crust gets as much praise as the filling. It is flaky and notably light, and the from-scratch banana cream pie is a favorite.
Berry’s is also a rustic, old-school American eatery. Breakfast brings Flannel Cakes, Quiche Lorraine, and The Country Breakfast, while lunch includes a French Dip.
Here is the catch for dessert seekers. Berry’s closes at 4 PM Monday through Saturday and 2 PM on Sunday, so dinner pie means buying ahead.
A drive-through makes that easier than you might expect. Pick up a Rhubarb or lemon pie in the afternoon, and dessert is handled.
5. Pie Snob Uptown, Phoenix, AZ

A pie vending machine that runs 24 hours is the kind of detail that makes a bakery memorable. Pie Snob Uptown on 16th Street in Phoenix has exactly that, which solves the late-night craving problem nicely.
Inside, the bakery features a rotating selection of artisanal pies. The signatures are the ones to know: Apple Crumb, Key Lime, Chocolate Cream, and Caramel Apple.
The pecan pie keeps the filling not too sweet so the pecans lead. A chocolate pie loaded with whole pecans and slightly bitter chocolate chips is another standout, and cobbler is on the menu too.
Slices have run around $6.50, a fair price for a dessert that feels like a treat. Weekend hours stretch to 8 PM on Friday and Saturday, while Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday close at 6 PM.
The shop is closed Mondays, but the vending machine has your back. Free parking and Wi-Fi round it out.
6. PIEfection, Mesa, AZ

An Arizona Orange Pie is a fitting way to close out a list of Arizona pie spots. PIEfection in Mesa bakes it alongside a lemon meringue pie that has a sweet and tangy filling and a crust that holds up beautifully.
The fruit pies use real fruit rather than canned filling. The peach pie is a good example, with a flaky crust and a polished presentation that looks great on a dinner table.
Cream pie lovers get options too. The chocolate cream uses real pastry cream in a tender crust, and the shop also sells savory pies and cheesecakes.
This is a takeout bakery with no dining room, so plan on enjoying pie at home. Whole pies and slices are both available, and holiday shoppers can arrange Thanksgiving Day pickup.
PIEfection is open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 6:30 PM. That late afternoon closing time lines up well with a stop on the way home before dinner.
From desert cafés to mountain hand pies, Arizona proves pie season never really ends. Pick a flavor, check the hours, and save some room.
