Ask anyone who grew up in Wisconsin what Friday night means, and the answer usually involves fried fish, a side of coleslaw, and a crowded dining room. Moving to Arizona does not erase that habit, even when the weather outside says pool day instead of supper club.
The good news is that the Valley and Tucson have a handful of spots where the fish comes battered, the plates come full, and the Friday crowd shows up early. Some are sports bars with Packers fans glued to the TVs, while others are simple counters that focus on fried seafood and little else.
A few lean Western, one leans Irish, and one serves breakfast all the way to midnight. This list covers six places spread from Peoria to Tucson that deliver the kind of Friday fish plate a Midwesterner can respect.
Save it for the next time that end-of-week craving hits.
1. Casey Jones Grill, Phoenix, AZ

Green and gold jerseys are a common sight at this north Phoenix hangout on Bell Road. Casey Jones Grill has built a following among Green Bay Packers fans, and the walls of TVs make football Sundays a big deal here.
Friday has its own pull, though. Fish and Chips sits among the menu highlights, and Friday evening is the busiest stretch of the week, so expect company if you show up around dinnertime.
The rest of the menu covers plenty of pub ground. Chicken wings, a Philly cheesesteak, prime rib, tater tots, and a pretzel with Kilt Lifter cheese sauce give the table plenty to share.
Prices land around $10 to $20 per person, which keeps a weekly fish habit affordable. Families are welcome, with high chairs and a kids’ menu on hand.
One planning note: the grill does not take reservations. Parking is usually easy, and the kitchen stays open late, with hours running until 2 AM every night.
2. Harold’s Cave Creek Corral, Cave Creek, AZ

Cowboy boots and fish fry might not seem like a natural pair, but Harold’s makes it work. The Cave Creek Corral is a big, rambling Western bar and grill with a country-style personality and a menu that roams far beyond steak.
Fish lovers get two options among the highlights: Fish and Chips and a Fish Sandwich. That second choice is handy if someone at the table wants the flavor without a full platter.
The crowd builds steadily from Friday evening into Friday night. Live country music on weekends, dancing, and theme nights keep the energy up once dinner wraps.
Not everyone in your group will want fish, and that is fine here. The bone-in ribeye, baby back ribs, Hangover Burger, and huevos rancheros all have their fans, and there is even a full vegan menu.
Harold’s accepts reservations, which helps on a packed Friday. Dogs are allowed on the outdoor seating, and a fireplace adds charm on cooler desert nights.
3. Fibber Magees, Chandler, AZ

Two words make this Chandler pub stand out for fish fry fans: all you can eat. Fibber Magees lists All You Can Eat Fish right alongside its classic Fish and Chips, which is about as close to a Wisconsin Friday tradition as an Irish pub can get.
The menu mixes American comfort food with Irish standards. Corned beef and cabbage, shepherd’s pie, a patty melt, and a Full Irish Fry Up all share space, and the bread pudding is a solid way to finish.
Quiz nights, bar games, and live music give the place a lively side. It is also friendly to families, with a kids’ menu and high chairs, plus dogs allowed on the patio.
Reservations are accepted, and parking is usually plentiful along Elliot Road. Weekend hours stretch to 1 AM on Fridays and Saturdays, so a late fish dinner is fair game.
4. Jethro’s Cafe and Tavern, Tucson, AZ

Pancakes at 7 AM and fried fish at 11 PM can come from the same kitchen. Jethro’s on East Broadway runs from morning until midnight every day, which makes it a flexible pick when Friday plans shift.
Plenty of diners come specifically for the fish fry and the catfish, and the fish and chips has a reputation as some of the best in Tucson. The fresh cut fries and fresh pineapple coleslaw round out the plate nicely.
The menu has a homestyle, diner-meets-tavern feel. Chicken fried steak, a tuna melt, grilled liver and onions, the Jeff Burger, and a pork tenderloin sandwich all show up, along with malted Belgian waffles for the breakfast crowd.
Friday evening is one of the busier windows, and service can slow down when it fills up. Patience pays off here.
Prices stay in the $10 to $20 range. Reservations are not taken, but parking is usually easy, and delivery and takeout are available too.
5. CRISPY’S FISH N CHIPS, Tucson, AZ

The name pretty much sets the expectation, and the batter backs it up. Crispy’s on Fort Lowell Road coats its cod, catfish, and shrimp in a cornmeal batter that comes out light and crunchy, with flaky fish inside.
Orders are cooked while you wait at this easygoing counter-service spot. Hush puppies come on the side, and the combos arrive with a generous pile of fries.
Fish is the star, but it is not the only option. Shrimp tacos, fish tacos, fried shrimp, chicken tenders, and wings fill out the menu, and there is a 22 to 24 piece shrimp platter with large fries for serious appetites.
Friday evening brings the biggest rush. The shop closes at 8:30 PM daily, so a late arrival might mean missing out.
Outdoor seating is available, and dogs are welcome outside. Takeout and delivery make it easy to bring a Friday fish dinner home.
6. Lakeside Bar and Grill, Peoria, AZ

Surfboards in the desert are a fun twist for a West Valley fish night. Lakeside Bar and Grill in north Peoria has a festive surf theme, outdoor patios, and a menu that bounces between American, Italian, and Tex-Mex.
Seafood fans have options. Grilled salmon, coconut shrimp, and a tuna melt are among the highlights, giving Friday diners a lighter or crunchier path depending on mood.
Friday evening is the busiest time of the week here. Hours stretch to 11 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and Saturday opens early at 9 AM for breakfast.
Groups who cannot agree on dinner will find room to compromise. Fried zucchini, potato boats, a big plate of nachos, and chipotle chicken all keep the table happy.
Trivia nights and live performances add to the weekend mix. Dogs are welcome, kids have their own menu, and parking is usually simple off Happy Valley Parkway.
