Seven Small-Town Mississippi Spots Where The Pecan Pie Alone Is Worth The Drive

Pecan pie is serious business in Mississippi, and some of the best slices come from places you might zip past on a two-lane highway. This list covers seven stops, from a Mennonite country bakery to a riverside barbecue counter, where the pie earns its own trip even if you skip the main course.

A few spots put a twist on the classic with chocolate or white chocolate, while others keep it simple and old-fashioned. Save this one for your next road trip, because a good slice of pie is a fine reason to take the long way home.

1. Ole Country Bakery, Brooksville, MS

Brooksville has fewer than 1,000 residents, yet plenty of travelers know exactly where to pull over on US-45 ALT. Ole Country Bakery sits in this quiet Noxubee County farm community and turns out Mennonite-style baked goods that keep the parking lot busy from early morning on.

The pecan pie is a big reason people stop. It has the homemade, from-scratch character that matches everything else on the shelves, and plenty of folks call it the best they have had.

Pie is only the start, though. The bakery case holds sourdough bread, rolls, cookies, donuts, bear claws, and moist cakes, plus an Italian herbs and cheese bread that is easy to grab for supper later.

It also works as a country deli. Homemade sandwiches and a chef salad make it a solid lunch stop, and coffee is on hand for the breakfast crowd.

Plan around the hours. The doors open at 6 AM Monday through Friday and close at 4 PM, while Saturday wraps up at 2 PM and Sunday is closed.

Fridays and Saturdays tend to stay busy most of the day, so I would arrive early if you want the best pick of pies. Free parking in the lot and along the street makes a quick visit simple.

2. The Pecan House, McHenry, MS

A shop with pecan right in its name had better know its pie. The Pecan House, on US 49 in the tiny Stone County community of McHenry, backs that up.

Most people walk in for the candy. The shelves focus on pralines, fudge, and all kinds of pecan treats, which makes it a handy stop for gifts or a sweet snack for the road.

The pecan pie is the sleeper hit, though. Plenty of visitors come for fudge and leave talking about the pie, which says a lot in a store full of candy.

US 49 is a main route between the Jackson area and the Gulf Coast, so this one fits neatly into a beach trip. Stopping on the way down means pie at the coast, and stopping on the way back means pie at home.

Hours run 9 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 9 AM to 6 PM on Friday and Saturday. The shop is closed Sunday, and Saturday afternoon is the busiest stretch, so weekday mornings are your calmest bet.

3. Weidmann’s | Southern, Meridian, MS

Crocks of peanut butter on the table are the first clue that Weidmann’s does things its own way. The restaurant sits at 210 22nd Ave in downtown Meridian, serving Southern comfort food inside historic brick-walled rooms.

Dessert is where this place really shows off. Its chocolate pecan pie, served with a side of ice cream, gives the classic a richer spin.

The pie has good company on the dessert menu. The World Famous Black Bottom Pie, Peanut Butter Pie, Lemon Almond Pie, and praline cheesecake all compete for attention, so splitting a couple with the table is a smart move.

Save room by choosing your main wisely. Fried green tomatoes with 1870 Sauce, Shrimp and Grits Yaya, crab cakes, and a seafood chicken sausage gumbo lead the savory side, and the vegetable plate is a lighter option.

Hours stretch from 11 AM to 9 PM Monday through Thursday and until 10 PM on Friday and Saturday. Sunday brunch runs 10 AM to 2 PM.

Reservations are recommended for dinner and brunch, especially Saturday evening. Free lot and street parking help, and high chairs and a kids’ menu make it easy for families.

4. Main Street Market, Vicksburg, MS

Timing matters here more than anywhere else on this list. Main Street Market serves lunch only, from 11 AM to 2 PM on weekdays, and it stays closed on weekends.

That short window is worth planning around. The family-owned deli on Cherry Street brings a Cajun touch to Vicksburg, with signature gumbo and homemade desserts leading the way.

The chocolate pecan pie is the sweet finish to aim for. It pairs nicely with a lunch built around a muffuletta, one of the salads, or a burger.

Daily specials keep the menu fresh for regulars. The warm, friendly atmosphere fits the small-deli setting well.

Vicksburg makes it easy to build a day around this stop. The riverfront town is known for its Main Street charm and Civil War history, so a morning of sightseeing can lead straight to a gumbo and pie break.

Free parking in a lot and along the street keeps things simple. Dine in or take your pie to go.

5. The Lady May, Ocean Springs, MS

White chocolate and pecans make a sweet pair at The Lady May. The White Chocolate Pecan Pie arrives with vanilla ice cream, and it stands apart from the more traditional slices on this list.

The restaurant and market sits at 708 Washington Ave in the heart of Ocean Springs, a coastal town of about 18,000 known for its walkable downtown. The space has a retro look plus a patio where dogs are welcome, and a water bowl is often set out for them.

Breakfast starts at 9 AM every day, with options like a Ham Egg and Cheese Biscuit and a Breakfast Plate. Later in the day, the Bacon Jam Burger, Crab Cakes Plate, Braised Beef Sandwich, and White BBQ Chicken Sandwich take over.

Flatbreads are another draw, including a crawfish version and a Hawaiian grilled cheese style. A Pimento Cheese Board and a sweet-and-savory snack board work well for sharing.

If pecan pie is not enough dessert, the Fried Bread Pudding is right there too. I would save this stop for an afternoon stroll downtown.

Parking can be tricky, so give yourself a few extra minutes. Reservations are accepted, and Saturday afternoon is the busiest time.

6. Biscuits & Blues, Natchez MS, Natchez, MS

Dark wood, brass accents, and a historic building on Main Street set the tone at Biscuits and Blues. Live music adds to the Natchez setting, which fits a bluff town with deep roots along the Mississippi River.

Desserts here get plenty of attention. The pecan pie and the dark chocolate bread pudding are the two to know, and ordering one of each for the table solves a lot of debates.

The savory menu leans Southern with a playful side. Crawfish beignets, a crawfish and mushroom beignet, classic beignets, and fried catfish are among the highlights.

Check the schedule before you go, since hours vary by day. The kitchen is closed Monday and serves lunch from 11 AM to 2 PM Tuesday through Friday, with dinner from 5 PM.

Saturday runs straight through from 11 AM to 9 PM, and Sunday is lunch only. Friday and Saturday evenings are the busiest, so reservations help.

Families will find high chairs and a kids’ menu. Parking is usually plentiful, which is a nice bonus downtown.

7. Pig Out Inn Barbeque, Natchez, MS

Barbecue first, pie second is the natural order at Pig Out Inn. Still, ending a plate of wood-fired smoked meat with a slice of pecan pie and a sweet tea is a very Natchez way to eat lunch.

The counter-service joint at 116 S Canal St has a fun, funky style. Old doors with glass over them and murals of Natchez cover the space, and there is an enclosed patio where dogs are allowed.

The menu sticks to smoked favorites. Ribs come by the half or whole rack, and the 3 Meat Combo, Pulled Pork Nachos, Turkey Sandwich, and Sloppy Joe round things out, along with hot sausage and sides like baked beans.

No reservations are taken, but service moves quickly. Hours run 11 AM to 9 PM Monday through Saturday and 11 AM to 7 PM on Sunday.

Since Biscuits and Blues is also in Natchez, a pie-focused day trip here could easily include two slices. That is a plan I can get behind.

Parking is usually easy, and kids are well looked after with high chairs and a kids’ menu.
