Arby’s is bringing back a fan favorite menu item for a limited run after three long years of discontinued production. Many were upset when this popular side was taken off the Arby’s menu back in 2021. So much so that it soon developed a cult following, which the chain is now using as the theme for its commercials and promotional campaigns.

After listening to fans who made online petitions that went up to about 10,000 requests, Arby’s is finally bringing back their famous Potato Cakes as part of the brand’s 60th birthday celebration. The chain even enlisted Twin Peaks actor Kyle Maclachlan to do the comeback videos as a way to break the news of “The Order of Potato Cakes”—a funny skit of how the menu removal of Arby’s Potato Cakes made fans on the internet “obsessive” in their comments to bring it back.

Thankfully, starting today (July 1), fans can, once again, get a three-count order of Potato Cakes at select Arby’s restaurants nationwide for the price of $2.39. As part of the side’s return, fans can also look forward to Arby’s drop of exclusive merchandise that will include Potato Cake hoodies, shirts, necklaces, pins, and candles on the official ArbysShop website. It’s important to note that the return of Potato Cakes at Arby’s won’t be forever, so be sure to get them while you can!

What Fans Said Back Then

Fans later took to social media how Arby’s basically “dropped the ball” after the brand took away their beloved side from loyal fans who were hardcore Potato Cakes lovers, with comments saying that the removal didn’t make sense as it was a staple on the chain’s menu.

Today, fans are expressing their excitement, as well as their frustration about the brand’s decision to make the side’s return temporary and not permanent. One Potato Cakes devotee asked why the side is only back for a limited time, adding that if the brand is going to take away a menu item, it should be Arby’s crinkle fries. The commenter got a response from the chain saying “Sorry, prophecy said so,” keeping with the cult-like theme of the brand’s marketing campaign. The Potato Cakes were discontinued in 2021 to make way for Arby’s crinkle-cut fries at the time.

Kyle Maclachlan for Arby’s Potato Cakes

Another thing that fans are excited about is the fact that Kyle Maclachlan is made the leader of Arby’s Order of Potato Cakes promotion campaign. In the commercials, Maclachlan gives a short but funny enactment of how the internet demanded the return of Arby’s Potato Cakes, showing obsessive “threat-like” comments on a retro-looking computer.

Maclachlan expressed his own enthusiasm for Arby’s Potato Cakes, saying that he’s a lover of potatoes and carbohydrates in general. The actor likened the famous side to hash browns, which Maclachlan says he is particularly fond of, hence his love for the brand’s Potato Cakes.

From The Club

I still remember how much it hurt when Arby’s took away their Potato Cakes. I agree with those saying that the crinkle fries need to take a back seat and let the Potato Cakes reclaim their position on Arby’s menu. I know this should be happy news but it’s sad that this comeback is temporary. On the bright side, we’ll have merchandise to forever remind us of the potato-ey goodness of Arby’s Potato Cakes. I bet the candle will bring up serious cravings though, so I’m not sure whether that’s entirely a good thing once the Potato Cakes are gone again.
