Cheese is always referred to as Cheddar, Mozzarella, Swiss or Parmesan when a recipe asks for it but specific brands are usually not recommended. For instance, Cheddar Biscuits can be made using any cheddar or Swiss is used in Turkey and Swiss sandwich must involve any type of Swiss (or any cheese). However, one cheese company has managed to carve out a position based on taste: Boursin cheese.

Boursin cheese is soft and rich and resembles cream cheese somewhat because it contains herbs in addition to other ingredients. The first one had garlic and fine herbs such as parsley, while the second one has been replaced by many others, including cracked black pepper- an altogether different kind altogether! Boursin cheese has so far been available as the Boursin Mashed Potatoes recipe, which requires Boursin butter spread over boiled potatoes before mashing them, not forgetting Boursin Chicken and Vegetable Soup made by adding diced vegetables into a liquid sauce made out of chopped tomatoes.
Last year, Boursin Lemon Baked Pasta became a craze, much like baked feta pasta before it. Now, there’s a new variety for home cooks to try: Rosemary and Black Garlic Boursin.
But, What Is Black Garlic?
Black garlic is a dark and sticky paste that is strong and sweet-sour due to the heat treatment process. It is possible to make black garlic at home using fresh garlic cloves or whole garlic heads. Black garlic can be used as a seasoning on dishes like bacon and Parmesan Brussels sprouts with black garlic or even added to the dough when making bread for extra flavor. Black garlic also has some medicinal properties as it has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal effects. It can be dried and ground into powder, becoming a convenient dried seasoning for your dishes.
How to Use Boursin’s New Rosemary and Black Garlic Cheese
The new Boursin has recently released a variety that contains black garlic powder. This kind is the rich, earthy flavor, which goes well with the rosemary’s intense herbal aromas. You can eat it as a sandwich spread without any accompaniment or add it to other food preparation processes. For example, it is used when making recipes such as baked tilapia served alongside lemony cream sauce mixed with full Boursin cheese with just 3 ingredients only.

Boursin Rosemary and Black Garlic is a limited edition, so it won’t be around forever. If you enjoy rosemary and black garlic, be sure to grab it before it’s gone from store shelves.
Discover the Rich History of Boursin Cheese
The history of Boursin cheese is rather intriguing, dating back to 1957, and was introduced by François Boursin, an artisan dairy farmer from Normandy. He desired to come up with a product that was both creamy and hard to forget other than being found in other cheeses. Here, he borrowed from fromage frais, a typical French cuisine that involves fresh cheese combined with herbs.
When Boursin launched in French markets, it quickly became a household name because of its unique taste and versatility. By 1961, the garlic and fine herbs version became a staple in every French home. It didn’t take long before Boursin made its way to the international market. The wide range of flavors available at Boursin today includes everything you might have already tried, such as Garlic & Fine herbs, as well as more stunning additions like Maple Bourbon, Rosemary & Black Garlic that are only around for a limited time.
