In February 2024, Burger King invited its guests to submit their dream Whopper recipe for a chance to win a $1 million grand prize and witness their creation sold nationwide for a limited time. After a month of letting customers’ imagination run wild, Burger King received and reviewed over a million submissions! Now, the results are in: we’ll soon see three unique Whopper creations gracing Burger King’s menu at participating locations.
With the help of its flame-grilled experts, Burger King selected the three finalists for its first-ever Million Dollar Whopper Contest. Meet the three Whopper sandwich creations that will be available later this fall at participating locations, until supplies last:
- Fried Pickle Ranch Whopper: This sandwich features a 1/4 lb. flame-grilled beef patty layered with pickle ranch and fried pickles on a toasted sesame seed bun. It also comes with other usual Whopper ingredients like lettuce, bacon, and Swiss cheese. This recipe was submitted by Fabian from California.
- Maple Bourbon BBQ Whopper: Meanwhile, this Whopper offers a combination of maple bourbon BBQ sauce, jalapenos, and crispy onions that go on top of a 1/4 lb. flame-grilled beef patty. Expect more smoky and savory flavors as it also features bacon, maple bacon seasoning, and American cheese inside the toasted sesame seed bun. This sandwich recipe was created by Calvin of California.
- Mexican Street Corn Whopper: Finally, the Mexican Street Corn Whopper has the same size of flame-grilled beef patty, combined with street corn spread, tomato, lettuce, Mexican spicy queso, and Southwest seasoned tortilla chips. Everything goes on a toasted sesame seed bun, too. This creation was submitted by Kelsie from Nebraska.
Staying true to its slogan “Have It Your Way,” Burger King launched the Million Dollar Whopper Contest to prove that there’s no limit to what you can do with a Whopper sandwich. According to the Chief Marketing Officer of Burger King North America, Pat O’Toole, the contest took the “Have It Your Way” slogan to the next level. The creativity that went into the Whopper sandwich creations was mind-blowing, he added.
Burger King will soon release additional details on how the public can access these creative delicious takes on the iconic Whopper. What’s Next for the Million Dollar Whopper Finalists?
Whopper enthusiasts, aren’t you excited to know which creation will come out as the million dollar winner? Before we get the delicious answer, there’s actually a contest timeline that we have to go through. At this point, we have the names of the final contenders and a restaurant-ready version of their dream Whopper recipes. So what’s next?
- Sometime in November 2024, the final three Whopper recipes will be available in participating Burger King restaurants nationwide. Around this time (exact date to be announced), the three Whopper sandwiches will be posted in an online gallery: BK.com/MDW.
- The online gallery allows the public to vote for their favorite sandwich recipe. The finalist with the highest number of votes will receive $1 million. Second and third placers will also get a cash prize.
- Burger King will announce the dates and timeframe for the public voting. The catch is only those who have a BK Royal Perks account can cast their votes. During the given timeframe, each member of the public is allowed to vote once.
- According to the official rules, winners will be announced in January 2025 and prizes should be fulfilled within 4 to 6 weeks after the announcement.

Unique Whopper Variations from Burger King
According to Burger King, there are over 200,000 possible ways to customize your favorite Whopper sandwich. But if you’re curious to know some of the showstoppers that appeared on the restaurant’s menu, you’re in the right place. Let’s take a look at these iconic variations:
Impossible Whopper
Burger King advertised this sandwich as 100% whopper and 0% beef, which gave us the clue that it has a plant-based patty. While this Whopper variation doesn’t have meat, the brand shared that the Impossible patties are prepared on the same broiler used for their chicken and beef products, which might not meet the standards of some vegans. Still, the Burger King team will be happy to serve you a non-broiler version upon request.
Whopperito
Whopperito is a burger-burrito hybrid from Burger King that was introduced in 2016. It featured all the Whopper ingredients wrapped inside a tortilla. However, instead of having a mayo or mustard, it reportedly used a queso sauce for additional flavoring. Whopperito received mixed reactions from Burger King fans. Some said that it had an odd combination of ingredients, while others declared their love for the spicy nacho cheese sauce.
Angry Whopper
Angry Whopper appeared for a limited time to celebrate Whopper’s 55th anniversary. This sandwich had a spicy angry sauce, thick-cut bacon, lettuce, American cheese, tomatoes, angry onion petals, jalapenos, mayo, and of course, the flame-grilled beef patty. Burger King also reportedly released the “Angriest Whopper,” which basically had the same ingredients but piled high on a red bun.

Burger King used to outdo itself when it comes to creating different Whopper variations. But with the first-ever Million Dollar Whopper Contest, the brand is placing the process of Whopper sandwich creation on the hands of guests. I don’t know about you, but that sounds exciting!
