McDonald’s is back with another exciting new collaboration! This time, they’re teaming up with a fan-favorite anime.
For years, McDonald’s has been come out with some of the best collaborations we’ve seen to date. They usually collaborate with movies and TV shows that will premiere in the coming months. But lately, McDonald’s is turning to anime for some amazing partnerships. Being such a huge global brand, it’s not surprising that McDonald’s has made their way into appearing in certain anime. With the rise of the media and the growing fandom, McDonald’s was right in seeing this opportunity to create something special. So, McDonald’s decided to team up with the biggest ongoing anime series right now.
McDonald’s is partnering with “Jujutsu Kaisen” to launch the new Special Grade Garlic Sauce exclusively on the McDonald’s App. It’s a fun little nod to the anime where “Special Grade” is a tier used to describe a sorcerer with immeasurable power. Taking inspiration from the Black Garlic Sauce from McDonald’s Japan, this new addition includes notes of garlic and soy sauce, balanced with a slight tangy sweetness. Each packet of the new Special Grade Garlic Sauce features eight unique lid designs featuring the fan favorite characters from the show. Here’s who’ll be making an appearance:
- Yuji Itadori – The main protagonist, Yuji is a first-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High. He’s a rare talent and a rare physical specimen who became the human vessel for the King of Curses, Sukuna.
- Megumi Fushiguro – One of Yuji’s friends and a part of the main trio of characters. He hails from a long line of talented sorcerers with a power that runs deep. He’s a genius 2nd grade sorcerer who can carry out missions on his own.
- Nobara Kugisaki – She’s part of the Yuji and Megumi’s team. She’s a strong-willed 3rd grade jujutsu sorcerer from the countryside with a chip on her shoulder.
- Satoru Gojo – The strongest special grade sorcerer who ever lived and a teacher at Tokyo Jujutsu High. He has yet to lose a fight.
- Kento Nanami – He was a former salaryman who returned to Tokyo Jujutsu High to use his skills and become a 1st grade sorcerer.
- Suguru Geto – One of the main antagonists of the show. His ultimate goal was to create a paradise for sorcerers where they can freely use their abilities without worrying about the consequences.
- Mahito – Another main antagonist. He is a curse that can change a person’s appearance by simply touching their soul.
- Sukuna – The main villain of Jujutsu Kaisen. He is the undisputed King of Curses who’s set on regaining his strength and return to enslave the world.
The new Special Grade Garlic Sauce is going to be available starting on July 9, 2024. Last April, McDonald’s introduced a new take of their classic McCrispy chicken sandwich. The Bacon Cajun Ranch McCrispy features a southern-style fried chicken fillet with applewood smoked bacon. Who says that a McDonald’s collaboration has to solely be focused on food? With such a massive impact on pop culture, McDonald’s has ascended into something more than just a fast food chain. It has a very distinct image with very distinct branding. They even have an intricate lore and great worldbuilding that features their many mascots. So when Crocs wanted to do a collaboration, things were very easy. McDonald’s and Crocs released McDonald’s branded clogs and limited edition Grimace, Birdie or Hamburglar Crocs decked out with fun McDonald’s x Crocs Jibbitz charms or socks.
WcDonald’s
While the “Jujutsu Kaisen” collaboration is pretty awesome, McDonald’s has actually dipped their toes into anime before. However instead of collaborating with an existing show, they teamed up with renowned manga artist, Acky Bright, and turned McDonald’s into a full-blown anime! The result was the WcDonald’s promotion back in March that had anime-themed packaging and even featured mini-comic strips. But that’s not all. The WcDonald’s promotion also had something delicious in store for anime fans. They released a brand-new sauce to pair with your Chicken McNuggets called the Savory Chili WcDonald’s Sauce. It was made with a unique combination of ginger, garlic and soy with a slight heat from chili flakes packs an energetic blast of flavor in every bite.

Alright Jujutsu Kaisen fans, here’s something awesome for you. JJK is one of the biggest hit anime series airing right now and there’s no doubt that it has a massive global fanbase. So it was only a matter of time before McDonald’s decided to do a collaboration. And I must say, the packaging looks really cool! This feels like it’s designed specifically for collectors. The art on the sauce lids is looking too good to open. Which would really put us in a dilemma because the Special Grade Garlic Sauce sounds absolutely delicious. Guess we just have to buy two of each; one for collecting and one for eating. On another note, I wonder how a finger of Ryomen Sukuna would taste with this new dipping sauce.
