What is National French Fries Day?
National French Fries Day is celebrated annually on the second week of July. For this year, it will fall on July 12, 2024. All week long, restaurants offer special deals on their fries, so better check out if your favorite restaurant is offering one. You might just get fries for free or, if you’re lucky, all year long.
Looking back, french fries started their roots in Belgium, not France, like what others would think. During World War I, American soldiers stationed in Belgium discovered the fried potato strips. Since Belgium Armies spoke French, the American soldiers called the snack french fries. The story is not connected with the holiday, but at least we remember the origins of french fries on a dedicated day just for it.
No one knows the day’s origin, but it was speculated to have come from a social media marketing campaign for restaurants. Using the #NationalFrenchFriesDay, restaurants offer special deals and new menu items for the love of french fries.
