Don’t Miss Out: Friendly's Has New Limited Edition Watermelon Creation

Friendly’s newest limited-edition dessert is here to add even more flavor to your summer! The Wattamelon Sherbet Cake is the brand’s new take on its other previous watermelon-themed creations. This one features a base of watermelon sherbet mixed with chocolate chips, and then a layer of tangy lemon sherbet on top, complete with a smooth coating of green frosting. It resembles the last Wattamelon Krunch Cake, only this new one doesn’t have the green crunchy bits.

While many fans have expressed their enthusiasm about this new release, there have also been some mixed emotions around the new cake, with some commenting on social media how much they miss the brand’s discontinued Wattamelon Roll. Those who would like to try this new Wattamelon cake can get them for a limited time at stores that carry Friendly’s ice creams, nationwide.

What Fans Are Saying

Friendly’s fans are eager to try the new Wattamelon Sherbet Cake and for good reason. The excitement surrounding this new product seems to be widely due to the idea of getting to experience another watermelon-themed cake from the brand. Comments on social media revolve around how the new Wattamelon Sherbet Cake is bringing people back to the days when Friendly’s Wattamelon Roll was still around. Many are even saddened knowing that there’s currently no Friendly’s where they live, making finding the cake a difficult feat.

Some fans are also straight up asking the brand to just bring back the Wattamelon Roll because of the dose of nostalgia that they’ve gotten from the new release of the Wattamelon Sherbet Cake. Perhaps a preference for the roll is to be expected, especially if it set a standard in terms of a cool watermelon treat that people would get every summer as part of tradition.

Let’s Talk About Friendly’s Watermelon Cakes

Friendly’s used to have a different watermelon creation that was introduced back in 1985. It was called the Wattamelon Roll and it had the look of a perfectly animated wedge of watermelon. It featured watermelon and lemon flavored sherbets and had chocolate chips for the seeds. People loved it so much that it became a staple at summer gatherings. Sadly, it was discontinued in 2021 when the brand decided to stop making all of its frozen roll desserts.

Since then, the brand has come out with other watermelon-themed cakes, such as the Wattamelon Krunch Cake and the recently released Wattamelon Sherbet Cake. The Wattamelon Krunch was similar to the roll in that it also had watermelon and lemon flavored sherbet and chocolate chip seeds. However, instead of a rolled shape, it came in the form of a traditional cake. The krunch also had whipped icing and green crunchies. The new Wattamelon Sherbet Cake, on the other hand, is the same in form, only it doesn’t have the green crunchies.

While the sherbet cakes appear to be great summer treats and many people are eager to try the new release, there are fans who have also expressed that the recent versions just don’t compare or come close to their favorite Wattamelon Roll. There are people who can’t seem to forget how good the roll was and have been asking the brand to bring it back. There is even a petition for it on the change.org website.

The mixed feelings surrounding the release of the Wattamelon Sherbet Cake is understandable. But there’s reason to believe that if Friendly’s once made an amazing watermelon roll, the brand can surely do it again, even if it takes a different form. Friendly’s new limited-edition Wattamelon Sherbet Cake is now available at stores that carry the brand. To see more of Friendly’s product offers, visit their official website.

From The Club

I understand why there might be people who aren’t completely sold on the new Wattamelon Sherbet Cake. The Wattamelon Roll was incredibly good. But I think anything watermelon-flavored is worth checking out. I also feel like I need to find out for myself just how the sherbet cake compares to the roll. Because honestly, a watermelon sherbet cake sounds amazing. I wouldn’t want to miss out on something good just because some reviews were partial to the watermelon roll. I’m a big believer in giving things a chance. And I guess, I just have to do my own research, you know? And by research, I mean tasting it for myself.
