As college basketball heats up with nearly 20 teams sporting dog mascots, MUG Root Beer‘s canine mascot, Dog, is putting its paw in the game for a special cause.

Each spring, schools with huskies, hounds, bulldogs, and other dog mascots compete fiercely to be the last one standing. MUG and Dog are calling on fans nationwide to cheer for these dog teams during the games. And here’s the catch: if a dog team wins the final showdown, MUG will treat everyone to free root beer.

Dogs have a strong track record in college basketball. In fact, schools with dog mascots have historically won over half of the time in the final rounds. With 17 dog mascots in this year’s matchups, the odds are in favor of one of them making it to the top.

Patrick Gamble, Sr. Brand Marketing Manager at MUG Root Beer, expressed their excitement, saying, “We’re making this hoops season all about the last dog standing because we’re big fans of our furry friends. Plus, a victory for one dog is a win for all dogs. If a dog team clinches the title in April, MUG will treat fans across the nation to free root beer.”

Dog, the mascot, chimed in with enthusiasm, saying, “I love all my dog pals. Every game needs more dogs. Root for dogs = FREE ROOT BEER for everyone!”
