The battle of the fast food releases began with Starbucks releasing their new Summer menu. Then, shortly after that, we got the news Chick-fil-A was bringing some surprise changes to the menu that shocked fast foodies on social media. The release of banana pudding as a dessert excites everyone (including myself). And this week, we now have Wendy’s with some great releases, and coming soon, Carls Jr. is throwing their hat in the ring. For those McDonald’s fans, don’t fret; they have a new burger and McNugget sauce also coming out this summer we’ll announce shortly. Let’s talk about this new Wendy’s release.
Wendy’s Saucy Nuggets in Four Flavors
If you remember, in December Wendy’s was quietly testing these four new chicken nugget sauces in Ohio. There wasn’t much buzz around social media about whether they were a hit or miss; however, because of the nationwide release, they must have been a huge hit.
The Wendy’s Saucy Nuggets are going to be released in four flavors on June 3-9 in the Wendy’s app, and then June 10th nationwide in restaurants:
- Honey BBQ
- Buffalo
- Ghost Pepper
- Garlic Parmesan

Wendy’s Summer Releases
I love looking back at past food releases by fast food restaurants. Let’s start at 2021 and reminisce about the wins and losses from each Wendy’s summer. How does this summer stack up?
Summer 2021
People were getting back outside and enjoying the summer of 2021. Wendy’s released the Summer Strawberry Chicken Salad with applewood-smoked bacon. They also introduced the Spicy Black Bean Burger and the Spicy Nuggs with Ghost Pepper Ranch Sauce. To cool things off, they launched the Strawberry Frosty, and they introduced the Sunburst Melon Lemonade drink.
Summer 2022
This summer, they didn’t really bring the heat. Wendy’s played it safe and brought back the Summer Strawberry Chicken Salad and the Strawberry Frosty.
Summer 2023
Last summer, Wendy’s went wild with the release of three different Frosty’s: The fan-favorite Strawberry Frosty, Chocolate Frosty, and Frosty Cream Cold Brew. Aside from the cool treats, they brought some heat with a Ghost Pepper Ranch Chicken Sandwich and Ghost Pepper Fries. They couldn’t forget about their Summer Strawberry Chicken Salad for the third year in a row. Rounding out the summer, they released a surprise burger known as the Loaded Nacho Cheeseburger & Queso Fries in August.
Summer 2024
This summer, so far we have the Saucy Nuggets in four different flavors. If I’m a betting man, I’ll put money on that Summer Strawberry Chicken Salad coming back again and probably another refreshing lemonade to compliment the salad.
Wendy’s also announced a new Triple Berry Frosty. From the sound of it; expect a light refreshing dessert treat to compliment some of those ghost pepper Saucy Nuggets. From the screen, the Orange Dreamsicle Frosty and the Chocolate Frosty are going to also hang on for a little longer.

I’m a big fan of the Wendy’s nuggets and I can’t wait to try to the garlic parmesan and the ghost pepper. Every fast food restaurant in the past seemed to play it safe with ghost pepper items and just using the name as a buzz word, except when Burger King released the Ghost Pepper chicken fries. I tested those chicken fries and they hit me hard! If you want a good laugh, here’s the video where I’m trying to dress up as Freddy Kreuger. 🥵
