End October with a bang with some of the hottest menu items that hit the fast food scene this month.
October has seen loads of exciting new menu items, partly because fast food chains are taking advantage of the fall and football seasons, as well as upcoming local events and holidays. Other restaurants, though, are simply following through their commitment of continually improving menus and bringing the best value to customers. Before the month ends, we’re putting the spotlight on more food releases that will elevate your dining experience and give you the best bang for your buck!
Subway
The holiday season has arrived at Subway as the brand introduces their new Double Chocolate Peppermint Footlong Cookie. This new item is the second footlong cookie offering of Subway, with a suggested price of $5 and below. The brand calls it the “ultimate cookie lover’s gift, ” sold in a festive packaging that makes it ideal for gifting to family and friends.
The Double Chocolate Peppermint Footlong Cookie has a merry-mint flavor profile. It’s made with double chocolate cookie dough with lots of chocolate and white chocolate chips, and then finished with peppermint extract swirls and pieces of red and white candy cane. Drooling already? The thing is you have to wait a couple more days to get this festive snack. It will hit the menus of participating Subway locations on November 1, 2024 and will be available until December 31, 2024 or while supplies last.
MOOYAH Burgers, Fries, & Shakes
Craving something savory? MOOYAH won’t let you down with its new Freedom Rings, now available on the Burger Hall of Dang menu category. So how exactly did this burger end up among the restaurant’s iconic burgers? In August 2024, Freedom Rings has been crowned the Best Burger of the United States (BOTUS), following a nationwide competition hosted by MOOYAH. Freedom Rings is a burger creation by Will of Massachusetts and has been voted by the public as the best BOTUS; it stood out among over 4,500 submissions received by MOOYAH.
Freedom Rings is expected to give MOOYAH fans a burger experience like no other. It features a Certified Angus Beef patty, layered with a blend of Pepperjack and American cheeses, savory sauteed mushrooms, crispy Applewood Smoked bacon, and fried onion strings. Everything goes into a soft potato bun and brought together by MOOYAH’s signature sauce. As a BOTUS winner, Will’s Freedom Rings showcased the brand’s fully-customizable offerings as well as the nation’s passion for individuality. Will has won a free MOOYAH for a year, in addition to the honor of having his creation up in the Burger Hall of Dang.
Birdcall
Meanwhile, Birdcall, a restaurant chain famous for its all-natural chicken sandwiches, is offering a new tasty experience through a combo meal. The brand recently unveiled its latest “Bird in a Box” combo, along with a retro parody music video. Fair warning: Birdcall’s chicken and parody song might live in your head rent-free. Both the combo meal and the song have turned heads, but let’s not lose our focus on the former.
The Bird in Box combo meal features Birdcall’s selection of signature crispy chicken and sides, available for only $9.95. The combo meal has two variations that you can choose from:
- Two Sliders Box: This includes a slider of your choice, tots or small fries, a house-made sauce of your choice, and a side of pickles.
- Slider & Tenders Box: For this box, you’ll get a slider of your choice and two regular or Nashville Hot tenders. It also includes a side of pickles, tots or small fries, and your preferred house-made sauce.
According to Birdcall’s Vice President of Culinary Innovation, Amador Acosta, the Bird in a Box combo is a great way to sample some of the brand’s best offerings. He added that you only need to try their award-winning chicken once for it to live in your head rent-free. As for the parody song, you have to listen to it four to five times and it will get stuck in your head, Acosta playfully shared.
Another Broken Egg Cafe
Finally, your lunch options at Another Broken Egg Cafe just got bigger and better. Over the past year, the upscale restaurant brand has been working diligently to expand its menu and elevate the lunch experience of guests. Here’s the result: you can now enjoy six new signature dishes and a new pairing option called “Lunch Duos.” These latest offerings have been available nationwide since October 1.
Here’s the complete lineup of new signature dishes that will be served all day at the cafes:
- Blackened Shrimp Salad: A combination of blackened shrimp, mixed greens, cucumber, and tomato. The salad is also topped with parmesan chips, red onions, pineapple, scallions, and honey jalapeno vinaigrette, offering a burst of fresh flavors. Not a fan of shrimp? You can swap it with grilled or fried chicken or smoked salmon.
- Brunch Jambalaya: This one’s a modern take on Jambalaya, featuring andouille sausage, shrimp, and crawfish. More flavor notes and nutrients come from the combination of onion, celery, and spiced bell pepper, as well as the toppings of two over-easy eggs.
- Chicken Salad Sandwich: Here’s a new sandwich experience that let’s you enjoy all-white meat chicken salad with tomato and lettuce on nine-grain bread. You can also order this Waldorf-style and include pecans, craisins, and diced apples.
- Chicken Tortilla Soup: A must-have this cozy soup season, the item offers a hearty combination of all-white meat chicken, black beans, corn, and tomato soup. It’s finished with diced tomatoes, crispy tortilla strips, and cilantro for more flavors and texture.
- Louisiana Gumbo: Enjoy classic Louisiana flavors with this gumbo made with jambalaya rice, crawfish, crab, shrimp, and green onions. This menu item is also served with focaccia bread on the side.
- Southern Fried Chicken Salad: A savory salad made with mixed greens, tomato, hardboiled eggs, red onion, bacon bits, and honey mustard, and then topped with hand-breaded chicken tenders. I don’t know about you, but this could remedy my afternoon slump! The chicken tenders can be swapped with shrimp, chicken salad, grilled chicken, or smoked salmon if desired.
Looking for a lunch meal with more variety? Another Broken Egg Cafe is thrilled to offer Lunch Duos, which gives you the option to order half an entree and half a salad or soup. There are select half entrees to choose from, including new menu additions like the Southern Fried Chicken Salad. For the soup and salad, options like the House Mixed Green Salad and Louisiana Gumbo are included.

From The Club
October is not yet over but it looks like the month has been pretty good overall, leaving us with more menu items to try. As someone who loves sampling chicken dishes, I’m looking forward to the new offerings from Birdcall and Another Broken Egg Cafe. I must say the latter’s lineup is impressive, with all the premium ingredients used and the innovative “Lunch Duos” option. But let’s not forget Subway’s Footlong Cookie and MOOYAH’s Freedom Rings, which are both creative takes on classic fast food items. Definitely worth trying for comforting flavors!
