How Lee’s Recipe Chicken Became Famous
Now, how did Lee’s Recipe Chicken become famous? It all started in 1966 when Lee Cummings and Harold Omer opened a restaurant in Lima, Ohio, called “Harold’s Take Home.” That was the first time that the Famous Chicken Recipe was introduced to the world. Fast forward to 1972, 55 new restaurants were opened across different states with the efforts of then-Director of Operations Jerry Sullivan.
During the 2000s, Lee’s expanded their menu options, ranging from Spicy Jumbo Dippers to Chicken Breast Strips to serve customers better. It was in 2021 that Lee’s faced major growth after it was acquired by Artemis Lane Partner, and by 2023, they already had a new visual identity to pull in more diners. Working with a new roster of marketing partners, they continue with spreading the Famous Recipe.
Now, for the million-dollar question, what’s in the Famous Recipe? I guess that’s one secret they’d never tell.
Overview of Lee’s Chicken Menu
You may wonder what’s under Lee’s menu offerings, and you’d be surprised when I say that they only offer the same type of fried chicken apart from the new Spicy Wings.

Yup, they pretty much serve the same golden coated fried chicken, but if you want your chicken flavored, you can opt to choose from their sauces of Bonsai, Chipotle Ranch, Country BBQ, Creamy Ranch, Fiery Buffalo, or Honey Mustard.
As a side meal, you can choose to pair your chicken with the following:
- Biscuits
- Mashed Potatoes

From The Club
Who doesn’t love fried chicken? It’s a food that’s one of the top favorites of most people. I think the beauty of Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken is the same fried chicken that they serve from the entirety of their menu. It’s an automatic green flag for me if I know that the restaurant focuses on serving their specialty only compared to others that serve a lot of variety. At least you’re sure that they took a lot of time to create a quality meal and develop their flavoring to serve you a filling meal.
