Nugget freaks will rejoice with these new Halloween-themed releases.
The chicken nuggets competition between fast food giants has been going on for decades. However, this Halloween, McDonald’s and Burger King are taking quite a different route by releasing limited-time offers. Looks like McDonald’s vs. Burger King is upon us as the battle of Halloween-themed nuggets is here. These easy-to-grab finger-food could also be the ones missing in your Halloween feast. Here’s the latest scoop on these spooky treats!
McDonald’s

Often referred to as the “goat” of McNuggets universe, Spicy McNuggets are coming back this November 4, 2024. Even though the Halloween is over by then, you can still enjoy the spookiness that comes with its level of heat. So just how spicy Spicy McNuggets are? Not so much. They’ve been described to have a nice level of spice that won’t burn your mouth. Compared to the regular McNuggets, the spicy version is clearly an upgrade.
If you’re planning to grab some Spicy McNuggets, check first if your area offers it. Because, sadly, this item will only be available in select locations for a limited time. It’s been confirmed by McDonald’s that restaurants in Memphis, New York, Phoenix, Dallas, and Houston will be welcoming back the Spicy McNuggets. To know which other locations are included, you may get more details via the McDonald’s app.
Since its debut in 2020, Spicy McNuggets has been an on-again and off-again item on the menu. It has the crispy coating that everyone loves, but with a blend of cayenne and chili pepper for an extra kick. The last time we saw these spicy nuggets was around March this year. Fans demanded to make it a permanent menu item but I guess McDonald’s only half listened. Who knows? Maybe the Spicy McNuggets will start reappearing every Halloween.
In related fast food news, McDonalds’ Happy Meal Boo Buckets also made a return and have been available since October 15, 2024. These spooky pails are temporarily replacing Happy Meal’s OG packaging, coming in four bright colors and with stickers that allow for customization.
Burger King

Not to be outdone, popular fast food chain Burger King is testing a new menu item: Spooky Nuggs! Just in time for the Halloween, the brand is running a limited-time test of this item that would possibly lead to a nationwide release. Beware though, because these Spooky Nuggs are only available in Columbus, Georgia . If you’re in the area, you can grab these in select locations and enjoy biting into chicken meat in the shapes of bats, ghosts, and pumpkins.
In 2021, Burger King introduced the Ghost Pepper Chicken Nuggets, which were kind of a disappointment in terms of heat level. Fast forward to this year, the chain also released the new Fiery Chicken Nuggets in February. They’re a spicy variation of BK’s classic chicken nuggets, coated in a glaze made with bird’s eye chili, cayenne peppers, and black pepper.
Additionally, Burger King has made a buzz with their ghoulishly good Halloween-inspired Addams Family Menu this 2024. It features menu items reminiscent of the quirky members of America’s popular fictional family. These include Wednesday’s Whopper that comes with a purple bun, Thing’s Rings (BK’s onion rings), Morticia’s Kooky Chocolate Shake, and Gomez’s Churro Fries. You can try most of the items on this limited-time menu by getting the Creepy and Kooky Meal, available until November 10, 2024 and with a suggested price of $12. Just a reminder, though, that this offer is only for those with Royal Perks account.

This brand is known for releasing limited-time doughnut collection (and of course, their OG glazed donuts!). This Halloween, you can enjoy their Ghostbusters Collection with four spooky doughnuts inspired by the characters from the Ghostbusters film. One of the limited-time flavors, Ecto-Sprinkler Doughnut, is a perfect match to Krispy Kreme’s limited-time drink, Slimer’s Slime-ade.
Jack in the Box’s Monster Taco
For the fourth year in a row, Jack in the Box has brought back the crowd-favorite Monster Taco, which is basically a larger version of their crunch taco. It’s also available in a new variation: Mummy Wrapped Taco, made with warm flour tortilla and with nacho cheese and bacon as additional savory ingredients. This mummified taco would pair well with Jack in the Box’s Witch Please Shake, an Oreo milkshake flavored with ube. This pairing is sure to satisfy both your salty and sweet cravings!

From The Club
I’m here for the chicken nugget innovation and can’t wait to see how Burger King‘s Halloween nuggets will hold up against others. I have to agree with other nugget freaks that it would be nice to see them with some kind of spicy flavoring or glaze. And speaking of spicy, I’m so happy that McDonald’s is bringing back the Spicy McNuggets (again). I always enjoy food with a nice spice, but not a fan of those that could burn my mouth, lol! Apart from these two new releases, I still have plenty of other Halloween menu items to try, so I guess I’m gonna have an extended spooktacular season. ๐
