New Starbucks Breakfast to the Rescue for the Gluten Free
Starbucks has been experimenting with some decent breakfast items as of lately. Although they tried a chicken maple sandwich, I think they need to stay out of Chickfila’s lane. Just saying, it was pretty mid.
But if you’re looking for something simple, light, and without the gluten to bloat your stomach throughout the day, the Potato Cheddar and Chive Bakes is a delicious choice. However, by the time you read this, it’s probably gone! 😢

Have no fear, that’s why we’re here. We’ve got the Starbucks Potato Cheddar and Chive Bakes recipe ready to go. A great meal prep breakfast to give you plenty of meals for the week.
My Ranking of the Starbucks Breakfast Options
I’ve eaten a lot of Starbucks breakfast foods over the years, so I think I have a pretty good idea what works and what doesn’t. In any case, I’ll give a quick note of each and you can see where the Potato Cheddar and Chive Bakes gets ranked.
- 15. Oatmeal (select locations): Convenience, yes. But way overpriced. It was so hot to handle, and just didn’t make any sense.
- 14. Kale & Mushroom Egg Bites: They aren’t bad, but there are just too many better breakfast items with more flavor and fill.
- 13. Holiday Ham, Cranberry and Egg Breakfast Sandwich (discontinued): This sandwich only works when you wear an ugly Christmas sweater. Never try this combination outside of the Holiday season.
- 12. Turkey Bacon Cheddar Egg White Sandwich: Turkey bacon is like eating cardboard. This really isn’t that healthy, considering it’s ultra processed turkey with cheddar and bread.
- 11. Chicken, Maple Butter & Egg Sandwich: This isn’t bad but the chicken consistency lacks big time. I was excited to try this because it’s reminiscent of a chicken and waffles combination.
- 10. Bacon, Sausage, & Egg Wrap: This has some decent flavor and fill, but it’s an expensive McDonald’s egg wrap. You’re just paying for the convenience again.
- 9. Sausage, Cheddar & Egg Sandwich: I add this in my rotation once in a while. I love their sausage.
- 8. Egg White & Roasted Red Pepper Egg Bites: The roasted red pepper’s have some great flavor when you add a little hot sauce on top of these. I’m not a keto person though, so I need a little toast with this.
- 7. Double Smoked Bacon Cheddar & Egg Sandwich: I wish the ‘double’ was after smoked, not before it; giving us ‘double bacon’. That would make this an epic sandwich. Still tasty though.
- 6. Bacon & Gruyere Egg Bites: I love these bites. The hints of bacon and cheese is perfect. I almost always get something else though because two of these is never really enough for a solid breakfast. But if you haven’t had these, give them a try.
- 5. Potato, Cheddar & Chive Bakes: I ranked this high because it is filling, has great flavor, and the potatoes have a nice little crunch to them. Reminds me of scalloped potatoes with eggs.
- 4. Slow Roasted Ham & Swiss and Egg Sandwich (discontinued): This was one of my favorite sandwiches and probably the best bang for the buck because it was big. This had about a 12 year run.
- 3. Spinach, Feta, & Egg White: Whenever I get the healthy breakfast urge (which isn’t often), I’ll go for this wrap. It’s filling and is a really healthy breakfast option.
- 2. Impossible Breakfast Sandwich: I know some people hate the idea of eating a ‘vegan sausage’ but don’t knock it until you try it. Impossible sausage is amazing and this sandwich hits the spot every time.
- 1. Bacon Gouda & Egg Sandwich: The Bacon Gouda is so perfect, one of these days I must build a recipe just to challenge myself and to save some money in my wallet. It’s the perfect match of bacon, gouda cheese, and a ciabatta roll.
Egg Bake 101
It’s no secret that eggs are among the most versatile breakfast options. Quiches, omelets, scrambled eggs, over-easy eggs, and poached eggs are all top-ranking breakfasts worldwide. But there’s something special about an egg bake. It requires no crust, making it an excellent pick for low-carb eaters. Egg bakes are also incredibly simple and can include any meat, cheese, veggie, or herb.
Egg bakes are also a great way to use excess garden produce or clean the fridge before grocery day! With a variety of flavor combinations, there’s an egg bake for everyone. It seems like every locale has its own variation of this breakfast item..and some utilize the dish for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For example, Italy prefers the term frittata and likely has some of the fluffiest egg bakes around. France sticks with the traditional quiche style, and Spain adds a tortilla for good measure.
One thing is for sure: whenever egg bake is on the menu, it’s a good morning!
