Taco Bell Says No More Breakfast Items for Some Locations

Start considering other Mexican-inspired food for your morning meal as Taco Bell is putting its breakfast menu to sleep in some locations.

It’s not every day that you feel like cooking when you wake up hungry in the morning. If you usually drop by Taco Bell for breakfast, you might want to think it over. That’s because the fast food chain is set to discontinue the breakfast menu in select locations.

Taco Bell announced that the menu change should only impact a small number of restaurant locations. For fans residing in such locations, you have to say goodbye soon to much-loved Taco Bell breakfast items, including the bacon crunchwrap, crispy hash browns, and cheesy toasted burrito.

To help streamline menus, select franchise-owned Taco Bell restaurants opted out of serving breakfast. This menu change is set to happen in October. According to the brand, the decision is in support of the franchises’ growth. Ultimately, Taco Bell wants to focus on what the local community wants instead of dictating what each franchise should serve.

The total number of restaurants that will be impacted by the menu change remains undisclosed. However, 500 company-owned restaurants will continue serving Mexican-inspired breakfast.

Taco Bell shared that they know how popular breakfast options are. They have simple but craveable items, which was a huge factor in its breakfast menu’s impressive performance in Q2 2024.

In Taco Bell locations that will no longer serve breakfast, the company expects other daytime menu items to shine, such as the Cantina Chicken Menu. No-breakfast Taco Bell locations will still open at 9am or earlier to serve the remaining menu items. Coffee will still be available, especially now that the company is ramping up its coffee program.

Menu Items Being Tested by Taco Bell

Before the discontinuation of breakfast in some Taco Bell locations, the brand may have already started its menu transformation by testing new items. Get a sneak peek into Tex-Mex food that might see a nationwide rollout soon:

Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupa

Before the end of summer, this exciting menu item was reportedly being tested in Houston. It features a pair of street-sized chalupa shells toasted in cheddar cheese. Customers were allowed to choose either the slow-roasted Cantina Chicken or grilled steak as their protein. Each chalupa is finished with onions, cilantro, Chile Lime Crema sauce, and cheddar cheese.

Cheesy Dipping Burritos

More savory goodness is coming your way with Taco Bell’s cheesy dipping burritos. This new menu item includes two burritos with rice and seasoned beef, paired with nacho cheese sauce for dipping. Once again, Taco Bell is proving itself a master in bringing new twists to the classic Mexican food experience.

It was revealed that this menu item is being tested at select locations in Detroit, Michigan. This release is an attempt for Taco Bell in making its meals more engaging and interactive.
