We’ve all, in one way or another, been taught how to eat our favorite food. From childhood habits to cultural misconceptions, many of us have been approaching food all wrong. Today, we’re bringing you 10 simple technique adjustments that will improve flavors, enhance nutrition, and reduce mess in food. Prepare to have your mind blown by these food revelations.

10. Lemon

One of lemon’s many uses involves squeezing the lemon to get the juice out. But sometimes, it could be a hassle as you might get them in your eyes, and not to mention, the seeds going into your food. There’s a better way to get the juice out; all you need to do is get the top of the spray bottle and cut a small section of the top of the lemon. Insert the spray bottle top and you’re good to go.

9. Broccoli

Let’s be real, even some of us who like our veggies hate broccoli, but we keep on consuming them because of their cancer prevention benefits. A 2008 study revealed that steaming was the only method that preserved and increased broccoli’s cancer-fighting components. With this, boiling and frying become the worst cooking methods. Meanwhile, a 2012 study found that adding spicy food also increases its cancer prevention powers.

8. Cupcakes

How do you eat your cupcakes? Many of you would answer by eating them from top to bottom. It’s annoying getting frosting on your nose and making a mess of this treat. Instead, try the sandwich method, where you cut the bottom and place the piece on top of the frosting. Yup, it’s the same iconic hack used by Anne Hathaway that she demonstrated on the Kelly Clarkson Show.

7. Strawberries

You don’t need to waste some of your precious strawberries with this food hack! Get a plastic straw and insert it into the bottom of the strawberry. After, poke it out through the top. This hack helps you remove the stem and leaves to leave you with the best part of the fruit.

6. Chinese Food Takeouts

Who doesn’t love Chinese food takeout? They’re the perfect dinner after a tiring workday. These takeouts usually come in a high container box filled with food. Taking the food out with chopsticks or a fork in those bottom corners could be difficult. But did you know these containers are designed to be a plate? Just fold down the slides and voila, you’ve got a plate.

5. Tic Tacs

Shaking those mints to fall on your palm defeats the product design of Tic Tacs. A slight indentation is found on the lid of a Tic Tac’s packaging. You should flip them to get a piece of mint placed on the indentation. It keeps your candy mints hygienic and offers portion control.

4. Almonds

Almonds are a better snack to pick than potato chips. But eating them as they are without doing this step defeats their health benefits. Soak them first in water overnight to absorb their nutrients. Let them rest for a few minutes after soaking to boost the release of antioxidants. Afterward, you can enjoy some healthy snacks while working.

3. Oranges

We’re guessing that you’re eating oranges by peeling them. We’ve all been told that it’s the only way to eat them! Instead, you can simply cut the edges from the top downward. Make sure to do them in a way deep enough to cut through the skin and not the juicy part. Watch them unravel as ready-to-eat orange slices appear to you.

2. OREO Cookies

OREO is best enjoyed with milk on the side for dunking. However, this method leaves you with soggy OREO cookies. Instead, you can use a fork and pierce through the cream filling and dip them for at least 5 seconds. The fork will keep your hands clean and dry while the timing ensures that your OREOs have enough time for a milk dunk.

1. Chicken Wings

We all enjoy some good chicken wings, but they could be messy as you get sauce all over your hands and face. Instead, simply press on the cartilage between two wing bones and twist one until it detaches from the other. In that way, you’ll be able to enjoy them boneless and clean.
