Every guest who purchases a slice of Triple Berry Bliss Cheesecake will get to donate 25 cents to Feeding America, a nonprofit organization of food banks and meal programs that feeds over 46 million people. A Slice of History
What’s National Cheesecake Day without learning about the story of one of the country’s most popular cheesecake chains?
The Cheesecake Factory’s story started with the recipe of its original cheesecakes. During the 1940s, Evelyn Orton was flipping through a local Detroit newspaper when she found a recipe inspired by the chain’s “Original” cheesecake treat. Soon enough, she opened her own bakery but eventually gave it up to raise her children.
In 1972, founder Evelyn, with the help of her husband Oscar, tried their luck to open a business called The Cheesecake Factory. They used all of their savings to sell cheesecakes to restaurants throughout Los Angeles.
Fast forward to 1978, their son David Overton decided to open a restaurant in Beverly Hills to sell his mother’s baked creations. People lined up during the opening day of the restaurant. 40 years later, the line never stopped, making them one of the most loved cheesecake chains in United States.
