McDonald’s has been giving Canada special treatment lately when it comes to product releases and comebacks. However, while envy and jealousy might be your initial reactions, one might think that McDonald’s could actually be hinting at something.
What could the fast food giant possibly be hinting at you ask? Well, today, McDonald’s Canada brought back three McNugget sauces: Garlic Parmesan, Jalapeno Cheddar, and the ever-popular Szechuan Sauce. And when McDonald’s does an event like this for its McNugget sauces in one country, it usually means a wider release is about to happen.

That’s right, this means that the Szechuan sauce that sent Americans into a frenzy could be making a return in the not-so-distant future. The Szechuan sauce has been described as having a mix of sweet and savory flavor profiles, accompanied by a light taste of soy, ginger, vinegar, and garlic. The familiar trio of dips is part of a throwback ad campaign celebrating the sauces’ debut years.
McDonald’s U.S. has not confirmed anything yet regarding this. But looking back at similar events in the past, such as the WcDonald’s and Loki promotions, it is highly likely that America won’t be left out.
What Fans Are Saying
Social media conversations about the Szechuan sauce’s rumored return is a mix of excitement and a bit of indifference. Fans are excited because the Szechuan dip is one of McDonald’s most memorable sauces since it’s tie-in promotion for Disney’s 1998 animated film, Mulan. However, there are also those who can’t help but feel like there are other past McNugget sauces that are more deserving of a U.S. comeback, with one comment saying to bring the “apple ones” back, possibly referring to McDonald’s 1987 holiday release of an apple cinnamon McNugget dip alongside a cranberry orange flavored one.
Then, there are those who just couldn’t resist commenting with a Rick and Morty reference and posting the gif where Rick expresses his need for the “Mulan McNugget sauce.” Some comments are more simple and straightforward, saying that they need this Szechuan dip comeback to happen. It’s understandable that while the Szechuan sauce is a favorite of many, there are still those who prefer other dips that McDonald’s has come out with.

From The Club
I remember driving to a few chains of McDonald’s and seeing all the people lined up outside just to get the Szechuan McNugget sauce years ago. I didn’t get to taste the dip when it first came out in 1998, so it all appeared overhyped to me at first. I just thought, “All for a dip?” But when I got to taste it for myself, I realized that there’s a reason for the hype. It was good. It was a good fast food take on a popular Chinese condiment. So, to hear that it might make a comeback soon is very good news. I’m also curious about that Garlic Parmesan dip. It sounds like it would make a really good nugget dip. I hope the U.S. release of these sauces will come true and come sooner than later, because I would happily drive to two, three, or four McDonald’s again just to get them.
