Wawa has just opened its very first store in Alabama, specifically in Baldwin County, Fairhope. This is the beginning of a bigger plan where they aim to launch up to 10 stores across the state over the next few years.
As part of their big move into Alabama, Wawa is planning to open two more stores in the cities of Mobile and Robertsdale by the end of this summer. Construction on a fourth location has already started. Each new store will hire about 35 people, so there will be plenty of new jobs coming to Baldwin County and Mobile, which is great news for the local communities.

The grand opening of the Fairhope store was a big event! Local leaders, firefighters, police, and community folks came out for a ribbon-cutting, a parade featuring Wawa’s history, and performances by local cheerleaders and music bands. There was also a special competition called the “Hoagies for Heroes” where police and firefighters raced to make the most sandwiches in three minutes, all to win money for charity.
The new store’s opening was more than just a celebration. Wawa is teaming up with Prodisee Pantry, a group that helps families in trouble by giving them food and other kinds of help. Wawa has pledged that a part of the sales from hoagies at the new store will go to Prodisee Pantry, up to $5,000. Wawa Foundation is also going to give a grant to USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital to support programs for kids.
This is just the start of Wawa’s presence in Alabama. With plans to grow and open more stores, it’s clear they’re not only here to serve hoagies but also to contribute positively to the neighborhoods they join.
Keep an eye out for more updates on new store openings, job opportunities, and community events related to these new Wawa locations.
A Bit of Wawa’s History
Wawa is an American institution with a rich history that dates back to 1803 when it started as an iron foundry in New Jersey. The actual convenience store business started much later in 1964, but it was the same family, the Woods, who opened a dairy processing plant in Wawa, Pennsylvania, in the early 1900s. This dairy farm became famous for its high-quality milk.
Fast forward to over half a century later, and Wawa has become a one-stop shop where you can fill up your tank and satisfy your hunger with their signature hoagies. With more than 850 stores across the East Coast, Wawa is known for its fresh food, coffee, and friendly atmosphere.
More Details on Wawa’s New Store in Alabama
The popular convenience store Wawa has made a step-up mission into Alabama, marking the beginning of what looks to be a blooming relationship with the Heart of Dixie. The opening of their inaugural store in Fairhope was just the beginning, with plans to delight Alabamians in Mobile and Robertsdale soon.
What sets Wawa apart isn’t just their much-loved hoagies or even their fresh, hot coffee—it’s their deep-rooted commitment to the communities they serve. By partnering with local charities like Prodisee Pantry, Wawa shows it’s not only about business but also about making a positive impact locally. The “Hoagies for Heroes” event is a testament to that, turning a store opening into an opportunity to support those who serve the community heroically every day.
The expansion means local job seekers have something to celebrate too, with around 35 job openings per store. This influx of jobs could be a significant boost for the local economy of Baldwin County and beyond, offering employment opportunities and career growth in a friendly retail environment.
Wawa’s journey is filled with moments of connection, whether it’s through a shared love for subs or support for local causes. It’s a company that builds more than stores; it builds community hubs. And their venture into Alabama is off to a promising start.
From The Club
Personally, I’m excited about this newly opened store in Alabama, not that I’m from Alabama but because it means they are growing, and soon will open up new stores! It’s also nice to know they’re planning to open up two new stores before the end of summer; hope they continue to grow, and more customers are going to be happier!
