The FDA announced that Reser’s Fine Foods has voluntarily recalled macaroni salad produced for Aldi. The recall is for one specific item due to incorrect labeling.

The recall affects the 32-ounce Aldi Deli Macaroni Salad, which has a use-by date of June 3, 2024 (printed: USE BY Jun/03/24). The ingredient label does not mention an allergen callout for wheat. Photos on the FDA’s website show the front packaging was correctly labeled as macaroni salad, but the wrong ingredient label—for coleslaw—was attached to the bottom.

The salad was distributed to Aldi locations in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Vermont.

Consumers who bought the macaroni salad with the wrong ingredient labeling and are concerned about the allergen can return the product to Aldi for a full refund or discard the item. Questions can be directed to Reser’s Fine Foods at 888-223-2127, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST.

Aldi: A Grocery Giant With a History of Value

Aldi is a well-known grocery store chain that’s famous for its low prices and unique shopping experience. The story of Aldi begins in Germany, where brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht took over their mother’s small grocery store in 1946. They had a simple idea: offer high-quality food at the lowest possible prices.

To keep costs low, they reduced overhead by using a smaller store format, minimizing staff, and displaying products directly in their shipping boxes. They also introduced a deposit system for shopping carts, eliminating the need for employees to collect them. In 1961, the brothers split the company into two branches: Aldi Nord (north) and Aldi Süd (south), each operating independently with a focus on different regions.

Aldi expanded internationally in the 1970s, reaching the United States in 1976 with its first store in Iowa. Today, Aldi operates thousands of stores across the globe, remaining true to its founding principle of offering affordable groceries to everyone.

According to research, Aldi reduced prices by an average of 12%, focusing especially on essentials like bread, eggs, and milk.

In a delightful turn, Aldi’s wine and cheese advent calendars have gained cult status and gone viral on social media platforms. Released each holiday season, these calendars offer a daily treat leading up to Christmas and have been praised for their affordability and quality. The hype around these calendars has even led to long lines outside Aldi stores, as eager customers flock to get their hands on them.
