Blast from the Past: How Takis Ignited the Snack World
Takis brand has been spicing up snack time for years, generating a heatwave of delight among those who dare to try their bold flavors. The crunchy, rolled tortilla chips have been a fixture in the snack aisles since their introduction. Barcel, a company within Grupo Bimbo, is the mastermind behind the Takis phenomenon. Since the early 2000s, Takis has been satisfying taste buds with its signature Fuego flavor – a hot combination of chili pepper and lime.
Grupo Bimbo, founded in 1945 in Mexico, has grown from a small bakery into one of the largest baking companies in the world. Takis itself has become a cultural icon, often appearing in social media challenges and being a favorite among those who crave a spicy kick. As tastes evolved, Takis diversified their product line to include an array of intense flavors, sticking to their fiery theme.
What’s Sizzling in the News with Takis
In recent years, Takis has made headlines for more than just their heat. In 2021, they announced the release of Takis Waves, a ridged potato chip bringing the brand’s signature intensity to another beloved snack format. Some news resources have covered the launch emphasizing the new way consumers could enjoy the reverent heat of Takis.
Prices and specials for Takis have been steady, occasionally being featured in store circulars for buy-one-get-one deals or discounted prices. However, virality took a new turn when Takis joined forces with the candy brand Trolli to create Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers inspired by Takis Fuego, cross-pollinating spicy and sweet fans.

From The Club
I love how food brands are defying the borders by bringing in snacks from Canada. First, we had Pringles’ All Dressed flavor, and now we have Takis Kaboom, both from the country up above us. Takis really made a smart move- they are just testing the waters and releasing one flavor first, before they fully dive into the US market.
Plus, they’ve carefully researched the difference of taste preferences between Canada and US, thus successfully tweaking the Kaboom flavor to suit the US market. I’m not a fan of sriracha flavors but I’m crossing my fingers that Takis would release more variety in their US lineup.
