The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, based in Atlanta, has been busy at the end of this quarter. They’re keeping an eye on some illnesses that come from food. This team works hard to keep us healthy. They’ve been doing it for over 70 years! They make sure our kids can grow up strong, our families and communities fight sickness, and that everyone stays safe.

One problem they’re looking at is an outbreak of Listeria, linked to two types of cheese called Queso Fresco and Corina cheese. This problem started on February 6th and made 26 people sick across 11 states. Most of these folks ended up in the hospital, and sadly, two people have passed away. A company called Rizo-Lopez Foods had to recall their cheese, cream, and yogurt to stop more people from getting sick.

Another issue is a Salmonella outbreak in February and is still going on. It’s linked to Charcuterie Meats and spread to 30 states with 87 people getting sick, 18 of which ended up in the hospital. Luckily, there have been no deaths. This started on January 5th, and they had to recall certain meat products to help control it.

There’s also been a problem with Cinnamon Applesauce Pouches. They have things called Lead and Chromium in them, which can be poisonous. If you think your child might have had this applesauce, they should have a blood test just to be safe. So far, 519 cases have popped up in 44 states. Do not eat any recalled applesauce pouches, especially those under the brands Wanabana, Schnucks, or Weis.

Remember, food safety is super important, so check for recalls to keep yourself and your family safe. If you want to know more about food safety news for free, there are websites that you can subscribe to.

We need to watch out for food recalls like bread in California and Nevada, or mashed potatoes, or even certain mushrooms and milk in some states. All this is to make sure we don’t eat things that could make us sick.
