Fall in Love with New Dessert Flavors from Dairy Queen and Sonic

These new desserts are about to deliver extra sweetness this season of love.

Love is in the air, right? Well, we could also say that love is in the new desserts from Dairy Queen and Sonic! These delectable treats feature flavors that signify romance and falling in love. But to be more accurate, you’re about to see returning menu items from both brands. Nevertheless, these are still new treats to look forward to, whether you need something sweet for yourself, your S/O, or even a Galentine’s night in! Let’s dig into these latest dessert flavors.

Dairy Queen

Dairy Queen fans are smitten with the return of two iconic treats: Red Velvet Cake Blizzard and Red Velvet Blizzard Cupid Cake. The blizzard treat first appeared on Dairy Queen menu in 2014, and since then fans have been asking the chain to bring it back. Thankfully, for the entire month of February, we’re going to see Red Velvet Cake Blizzard again, along with the equally delectable Cupid Cake.

Now, let’s do a quick review on what’s so great about these red velvet treats. First up, the Red Velvet Cake Blizzard. It features red velvet cake pieces and cream cheese icing, swirled into DQ’s signature soft serve. Meanwhile, the Cupid Cake is basically blizzard in ice cream cake form, but made extra special because it’s heart-shaped! The cake uses vanilla soft serve as the base, and then layered with red velvet cake pieces and cream cheese icing. It’s finished with a layer of the Red Velvet Cake Blizzard itself and V-day themed decorations. The ice cream cake can serve 2 to 4 people, perfect for a date night or a Galentine’s Day celebration.

According to food blogger and red velvet lover @snackolator, many Dairy Queen stores have already started selling the returning items. Both desserts should be available next week in all participating locations, until end of February. Also, it’s worth nothing that the Red Velvet Cake Blizzard is DQ’s Blizzard of the Month for February, so don’t be shy in showing your love for this dessert even after V-day!

Sonic

Strawberries are also sweethearts of Valentine’s Day, and Sonic is well aware of it. That’s why the chain is also bringing back a menu item that screams love: Strawberry Shortcake Snowball Slush Float! According to fans, this treat is hard to resist, mainly because it’s got a little bit of everything. The returning dessert features Sonic’s slush, mixed in with real strawberries, vanilla ice cream, shortcake flavoring, and a sweet crystal topping.

If you’re looking for something that’s a little different for Valentine’s Day, then give Sonic’s slush float a try. It’s been described as a cross between a float, slush, and shake. The creamy and crunchy combination of textures makes the dessert even more satisfying. The Strawberry Shortcake Snowball Slush Float is now available online, via Sonic’s website. You can also drop by the nearest Sonic to see if the V-day treat is already in your location.

Other Valentine’s Day Treats to Fall in Love With

Before Dairy Queen and Sonic announced their Valentine’s Day offers, other chains already released some sweet treats for the season of love. That means you’re far from running out of food ideas to impress your partner or to gift yourself (yes to self-love). Run to these fast food chains near you, and don’t miss their latest drops!

  • Nothing Bundt Cakes’ Whole Lotta Love Collection – Nothing Bundt Cakes is known for having a wide range of cake options, from small individual ones to large party sizes. Now that it’s the season of love, they’re sweetening things up by dropping a new collection of bundt cakes. Under the Whole Lotta Love Collection, you have 4 options to choose from (or try them all): Chocolate-Covered Strawberry, OREO Cookies & Cream, Banana Pudding Cake, and REESE’S Chocolate Peanut Butter. Any of these sounds like a great centerpiece or gift for special someone.
  • Texas Roadhouse’s Bouquet of Bread Rolls – Don’t you wanna lay down on a bed of…bread rolls? I sure hope not, because the bread rolls at Texas Roadhouse taste good on their own, so they belong only to your stomach! Kidding aside, the chain has given fans a nice idea for their bouquets. If you also want to skip the flowers this year, you can join in the fun. Just order some bread rolls and butter, attach each roll to green skewers (this will act as your stem). Compile and attach the butter for the complete experience. This one would require a little DIY-ing but worth it if you want a creative way to show your love!
  • Chick-fil-A’s Heart-Shaped Trays – Enjoy Chick-fil-A favorites in heart-shaped trays! The fast food chain is bringing back these Valentine’s Day treats that let you choose from the following: 30-ct nuggets, 10-ct Chick-n-Minis, 12-ct Chocolate Brownie Fudge halves, and 6-ct chocolate chunk cookies. Whether you’re looking for something sweet or savory, one of Chick-fil-A’s heart-shaped trays could satisfy your cravings.
  • Mountain Mike’s Heart-Shaped Pizza – No matter the celebration, having a pizza always seems fitting, right? But what if you could have a heart-shaped pizza in time for V-day celebration? Yup, that’s possible with Mountain Mike’s latest fast food release. Available starting February 1, 2025, the oven-baked heart-shaped pizza comes cut or uncut, with one topping of your choice.

From The Club

For no-fuss Valentine’s Day treats, the returning desserts at Dairy Queen and Sonic would be ideal options! I’m loving the red velvet treats, and I’ll be sure to grab that blizzard even after V-day. While I’m not really a fan of strawberry-flavored drinks, there’s something about Sonic’s slushy treat that interests me. It sounds like a sip you’d want to settle for when you can’t choose between a strawberry shake or a real strawberry shortcake. Anyway, more Valentine’s Day treats should come in before February begins. Better get your sweet tooth ready!
