In a lot of New Jersey homes, the holidays do not really start until someone brings home a ring of kielbasa from the Polish deli. Pierogi, golabki, smoked meats, and rye bread follow close behind, and the busiest weeks of the year can mean longer lines at the counter.
That is why planning ahead matters, and calling or stopping in early is a smart move. The five shops below stretch from Bergen County down to Camden County, and each one has a reason to earn a spot on your holiday table.
1. Piast Meats & Provisions (Polish Food), Garfield, NJ

Early birds get a real advantage here, since the doors open at 6 AM on weekdays and Saturdays. That makes Piast an easy stop before work when you want to place a holiday order without a crowd.
The shop has been making homemade kielbasa, pierogi, and other Polish specialties for more than 35 years. The kielbasa is made in-house, and it works just as well on a grill in summer as it does on a holiday platter in December.
Piast runs as a full-service Polish American deli, so the shelves go well past sausage. You will find smoked meats, stuffed cabbage, rye bread, blood sausage, and prepared hot meals ready to take home.
There is no dine-in seating, but curbside pickup, in-store pickup, and delivery are all options. Free parking in the lot and on the street helps on busy days.
Speaking of busy, Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings draw the biggest crowds. Monday morning is the quietest window, and I would aim for that if your list is long.
Sunday hours are short, running 7:30 AM to 2 PM.
2. Pulaski Meat Products, Linden, NJ

Thin fresh kielbasa is the calling card at this Linden meat market on North Wood Avenue. Some families have been shopping here for many years, and that kind of loyalty usually points to a sausage worth waiting for.
Pulaski focuses on traditional Polish smoked meats and cold cuts, with plenty made right on the premises. Other items, including Polish candy and pantry goods, come imported from Poland, which makes it handy for stocking up on holiday treats in one trip.
The store was remodeled a few years ago, so the space is updated while the recipes stay old-school. Prepared foods round out the selection for anyone short on cooking time.
Plan around the schedule. Pulaski is closed Sundays, opens at 9 AM most weekdays, and stays open until 6 PM on Thursdays.
Thursday evening tends to be the calmest time to shop.
A free lot sits on-site, with paid street parking nearby. Restrooms are available too, which is a small but welcome perk.
3. Polish American Deli, Runnemede, NJ

South Jersey shoppers do not have to head north for good kielbasa. This deli on the Black Horse Pike has built a reputation for some of the best kielbasa this side of the Delaware River.
The fresh kielbasa comes frozen in 1.5-pound pieces, which makes holiday stocking simple. Toss a few in the freezer now and you are ready for Christmas Eve, Easter, or a random winter Sunday.
Smoked kielbasa is another favorite, along with fresh pierogi and golabki. The staff are helpful about pointing first-timers toward a good starting order.
Here is a tip I like. The deli sells jars of stone ground mustard, and pairing one with a kielbasa sandwich is a very good idea.
Unlike some shops on this list, Polish American Deli is open seven days a week, with Thursday and Friday hours running until 7 PM. Delivery and in-store pickup are available, and parking is free in the lot and on the street.
Saturdays get busy, while Sunday and Monday tend to be quieter.
4. The Polish Pickle Deli, Manville, NJ

Manville has long been one of Central Jersey’s best-known Polish communities, so it makes sense that a deli like this calls the town home. The Polish Pickle is a gourmet Polish grocery with a clear focus on homemade pierogi and artisanal kielbasa.
The sausages, ham, cheese, and pierogi all have that homemade quality that brings people back. Stuffed cabbage is another reason to stop in.
It is the kind of place where you understand the appeal only after browsing the case yourself. Quality is the whole point here, and the selection reflects it.
Hours run 9 AM to 6 PM on weekdays and 8 AM to 4 PM on Saturdays, with Sundays closed. Saturday mornings and Friday afternoons fill up fast, while weekday mornings are usually calm.
Delivery and in-store pickup are both offered, which helps when you are juggling a big holiday spread.
5. Polski Smak, Butler, NJ

Breakfast is the sneaky reason to visit this Route 23 deli. The egg, cheese, and kielbasa sandwich is one order you should not skip, and the doors open at 6 AM on weekdays.
Once breakfast is handled, the holiday shopping can begin. Polski Smak makes its own kielbasa, and the double smoked version stands out on a crowded counter.
The shelves carry a solid mix of kielbasa, deli meats, pierogi, and Polish pantry items. Hot dishes for takeout include stuffed cabbage and potato dumplings, and the lunch specials are priced reasonably.
There is no indoor seating, so think grab and go. Delivery is not offered either, which means a quick drive is part of the plan.
The deli is closed Sundays, and Saturday hours run 7 AM to 5 PM. Free parking in the lot and on the street makes stopping off Route 23 easy, especially in the quieter morning hours early in the week.
