Missouri Wing Lovers Swear By These 9 Bars That Fry Them Crispy And Sauce Them Bold

Missouri takes its chicken wings seriously, from Kansas City neighborhood taverns to lake country roadhouses. A great wing needs two things: a crunchy outside and a sauce with real personality.

The nine bars on this list deliver both, and each one does it a little differently. Grab some napkins, because this road trip gets messy in the best way.

1. Peanut on Main, Kansas City, MO

Big BLTs and spicy wings built the reputation of the Peanut, a small Kansas City chain of unassuming bars. The Main Street location sits at 5000 Main St, close to the Plaza area.

The wing to know is the Spicy Wings Fred Flintstone, a name that tells you portions are not shy. You can also order Wings and Fries or go all in with a Dozen Wings.

The setting is casual, with a historic touch and TVs that make it a solid spot for catching a game. Hours run late, until 1:30 AM Monday through Saturday, and Sunday opens at 10 AM for brunch.

Reservations are not taken, so plan around Friday evenings, when it gets busiest. Free lot and street parking make the stop easier.

2. Syberg’s Gravois, St. Louis, MO

Ask a St. Louisan about wings and Syberg’s usually comes up within a minute. The Gravois Road location is a late-night bar and eatery known for wings, St. Louis-style pizza, and grilled shark chunks.

That shark is no gimmick. It sits on the menu alongside toasted ravioli, potato skins, and a chicken strip salad, so the table can go local with every order.

Beyond food, there is trivia night, bar games, live music, and outdoor seating. Families fit in too, with high chairs and a kids’ menu.

Weekend hours stretch to 1 AM, and reservations are accepted, which helps with groups. Parking is usually plentiful.

3. CJ’s In Tiger Country, Columbia, MO

Game day in Columbia has a soundtrack of crunch, and a lot of it comes from CJ’s on East Broadway. The wings here are breaded, crispy, and meaty, then coated in the house signature sauces.

Boneless fans have options too, like the 8 Boneless order. Fried pickles and curly fries round out a basket nicely.

I would save this one for a weekday lunch. CJ’s runs split hours Tuesday through Friday, 11 AM to 2 PM and again from 4 to 9 PM, with Saturday service until 7 PM.

It is closed Sunday and Monday, so check the calendar before heading over after a Mizzou game. Delivery and takeout are both available.

4. Coyote’s Adobe Café, Springfield, MO

Forty. That is how many wing flavors Coyote’s Adobe Café offers on Glenstone Avenue in Springfield.

The house move is the Twice Fried Wings, which go through the fryer a second time for extra crunch before getting sauced. Teriyaki boneless wings and parmesan garlic fries are also popular orders.

The sports-themed room includes a pool table, a jukebox, and outdoor seating. It is a laid-back spot to settle in for a game.

Weekends start early, with Saturday opening at 10 AM and Sunday at 9 AM for breakfast and brunch. There is even a drive-through for wing cravings on the go.

5. Hackett Hot Wings, Joplin, MO

Memphis-style wings found a home on Joplin’s Main Street, and Hackett Hot Wings brings 13 flavors to the table.

The meat is brined and marinated before cooking, which keeps it tender under a crispy outside. Flavors range from hot honey to a Greek dry rub, all the way up to a fiery option called suicide super hot.

The space has two sides. A self-seat high-top area has multiple TVs and a full bar, while a traditional dining room suits a slower meal.

Garlic breaded cheese curds and fried mushrooms make strong sidekicks. Reservations are accepted, and the kitchen is closed Mondays.

6. Helen’s JAD Bar & Grill, North Kansas City, MO

Night owls, this one is yours. Helen’s JAD Bar & Grill on Armour Road stays open until 3 AM Tuesday through Saturday.

The star is Helen’s Sweet & Spicy Wings, a signature that balances a little sugar with some heat. The rest of the menu leans pub style, with an All American Burger, fish and chips, and pizzas like Thai Chicken.

Decor is no-frills on purpose. Shuffleboard, darts, and a patio give the place its personality.

Doors open at 4 PM daily, so it is strictly an evening stop. Parking is on-site and usually easy.

7. Mulligan’s Grill, Ellisville, MO

Golf decor and hot wings make a surprisingly good pairing at Mulligan’s Grill in Ellisville. The homey bar and grill on Clarkson Road is known for its signature hot wings.

Appetizer lovers can build a whole spread here. Buffalo chicken dip, toasted ravioli, spinach artichoke dip, and potato skins all share the menu.

Families are welcome, with high chairs and a kids’ menu. There is also a full vegetarian menu, which is handy for mixed groups.

Mulligan’s accepts reservations and is closed Mondays. Evenings from Tuesday on tend to fill up, so an earlier visit is smart.

8. Felix’s Pizza Pub, St. Louis, MO

Trashed wings are a St. Louis specialty, and Felix’s Pizza Pub has made a name with its version. The wings are fried, sauced, and then finished again for an extra-crispy, extra-saucy result.

A trashed Buffalo wing drizzled with jalapeño ranch once earned Felix’s a winning spot in a wing contest. That combo alone justifies the trip to Clayton Avenue.

The pizza deserves a look too, including the Dogtown Slice and creative New York-style pies. Full vegan and vegetarian menus mean everyone can order.

Parking can be tricky, so give yourself a few extra minutes. The patio is a nice bonus on warm days.

9. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, Osage Beach, MO

A Lake of the Ozarks road trip gets a smoky upgrade at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach. This barbecue joint serves smoked wings, a nice change from the fryer-only crowd.

Onion rings are a natural partner. The big menu also covers cheesy corn, crab stuffed mushrooms, a catfish BLT, and a chicken and rib combo.

Lake views, live music, big-screen sports, and a fireplace give the place plenty of energy. Portions are generous and prices stay reasonable.

It is open every day from 11 AM to 10 PM. That makes it an easy lunch or dinner after a day on the water.

From city taverns to lakeside roadhouses, Missouri clearly knows its way around a wing. Save this list for your next craving and share it with the friend who always orders extra sauce.
