Our Favorite Texas Pecan Stands Sell Fresh Nuts Right Before Holiday Baking

Every fall, Texas kitchens start running low on one very important ingredient. Pecans are the state tree’s gift to pie lovers, and the best ones often come straight from family stores along highways and country roads.

From the Hill Country to East Texas and the pecan town of San Saba, these seven stops sell fresh shelled and unshelled nuts, candies, pies, and pantry treats. Save this list before you start your holiday baking, because a good pecan makes a big difference.

1. Berdoll Pecan Candy & Gift Company, Cedar Creek, TX

Anyone driving State Highway 71 between Austin and Bastrop has probably noticed the pull-off at Berdoll. It is one of the easiest pecan stops in Central Texas, open seven days a week from 9 AM to 7 PM.

The shelves cover a lot of ground. You will find homemade pecan pies, candied nuts, fudge, and both shelled and unshelled pecans for your own baking.

Beyond the nuts, the store stocks jams, jellies, hot sauces, toys, and plenty of Texas-themed gifts. That makes it handy if you need a hostess present and pie supplies in one stop.

Parking is free, and a visit can be quick. If you want to skip the crowd, aim for a weekday morning, since Saturday and Sunday afternoons tend to be the busiest.

2. The Pecan House Country Store, Mineola, TX

Pecan syrup and pecan butter are not things you see at every grocery store. At this East Texas shop on Loop 564, they share space with a long list of nutty favorites.

Fresh pecans come shelled, unshelled, and semi-shelled, so you can pick how much cracking work you want to do. Peanuts, brittle, toffee, and pie round out the counter.

I like this stop for bakers who want options. Semi-shelled nuts are a nice middle ground if you enjoy fresh pecans but not an afternoon with a nutcracker.

Plan around the schedule. The store opens Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and stays closed Sundays and Mondays.

3. Atkinson Pecans Co., LLC, Wharton, TX

Southwest of Houston, farm roads around Wharton lead to a pecan supplier that keeps things practical. Atkinson Pecans sits on FM 1301 and focuses on nuts in several forms.

Whole, cracked, and shelled pecans are all part of the lineup. That flexibility matters when one recipe calls for halves and another needs chopped pieces.

The flavored pecans add some fun. They make an easy snack bowl option while your pie cools.

Hours are not posted, so call ahead at 979-532-3540 before making the drive.

4. Millican Pecan Company – San Saba, Texas, San Saba, TX

San Saba calls itself the Pecan Capital of the World, and Millican Pecan Company is one reason the title holds up. The store sits on County Road 100 just outside town.

Expect a traditional setup with fresh nuts and gourmet pecan treats. Shelled pecans are a big draw for home bakers who want to get straight to the mixing bowl.

The service options are flexible, including curbside pickup, in-store pickup, and delivery. That last one helps if a road trip is not in the cards this season.

Hours run Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, with weekends closed. A weekday visit is the way to go.

5. Fredericksburg Pecan Company LLC, Fredericksburg, TX

Their own motto says it plainly: We’re More Than Nuts. On East Main Street in Fredericksburg, this shop blends Texas pecans with gourmet foods and gift items.

Tasting is part of the visit here. The store aims for a setting where learning and sampling go together, so you can try before you buy.

Fresh pecans are the main event, joined by nearly any pecan product you can picture. It is an easy add-on to a Hill Country shopping day downtown.

The shop is open Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM and closed Sundays.

6. Oliver Pecan Co. Inc., San Saba, TX

Pecan oil might be the most surprising item on the shelf at Oliver Pecan Co. This family-owned candy store on West Wallace Street gets creative with San Saba’s favorite crop.

Fresh Texas pecans anchor the shop, and handcrafted treats fill in the rest. Pecan pies, pecan butter, and a snack mix called Texas trash are standouts.

Bakers can grab nuts for the oven, while snackers leave with something ready to eat. Pecan oil also makes a fun gift for the cook who has everything.

Visit Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. The store closes on weekends.

7. The Great San Saba River Pecan Company, San Saba, TX

The trip in is half the fun. Getting to this store means driving through rows of pecan trees on the property off West US-190.

Inside, the focus is premium pecans plus artisanal pies and preserves. Quality is the calling card, and the food products go well beyond plain nuts.

It makes a strong final stop on a San Saba pecan run. Unlike the other two local shops on this list, it stays open Saturdays.

Hours are Monday through Saturday from 10:30 AM to 6 PM, closed Sundays. Stock up early, because holiday pie season arrives fast.
