Road-Trippers Crossing Nevada Swear These 5 Old Motel Coffee Shops Serve The Best Breakfasts

Nevada has some of the longest, emptiest highways in the country, and that makes a good breakfast stop feel like a big deal. Out here, the motel cafe is often the only place to eat for many miles.

These old-school spots serve eggs, pancakes, and hot coffee to truckers, ranchers, and travelers on their way across the desert. If you plan to drive Highway 50, the Extraterrestrial Highway, or the far northern backroads, save this list before you lose cell service.

1. Denio Junction Motel & Restaurant, Denio, NV

Few breakfast stops in Nevada feel as far from everything as this one. Denio Junction sits along State Route 140 near the Oregon line, deep in the quiet northern Great Basin.

The setup covers the basics a long drive demands. There is a full-service restaurant, a motel, fuel, and grocery supplies all at one address, so you can eat, sleep, and gas up without hunting for another town.

Breakfast is the reason to time your drive around this place. The breakfast burrito is famously huge, and the pancakes come out tall and fluffy.

French toast is another solid pick, served four slices to a plate for around $10. That is a lot of fuel for very little money.

Plan ahead before you head this way. The restaurant is closed Mondays, opens at 8 AM Tuesday through Saturday until 8 PM, and closes at 4 PM on Sundays.

2. Little A’Le’Inn, Alamo, NV

Where else can you eat pancakes under the watchful eyes of alien models? Little A’Le’Inn leans fully into its spot along the Extraterrestrial Highway, and the small restaurant is decorated to match.

Behind the space theme is a down-to-earth roadside stop. The property has low-key motel rooms, a log cabin, and a modest restaurant that keeps things simple and friendly.

Breakfast is served until 11 AM, so early risers have time to eat before heading out to explore the area. Many travelers use it as a launch point for the drive toward the famous Area 51 entrance road.

The kitchen opens at 8 AM every day. It stays open until 8 PM most nights and until 10 PM Thursday through Saturday, which helps if you roll in late.

I would save this one for a road trip with kids or anyone who enjoys a little roadside weirdness with their eggs.

3. Middlegate Station, Fallon, NV

Highway 50 earned the nickname The Loneliest Road in America, and Middlegate Station is one of the stops that makes it a little less lonely. The historic Old West building sits right off the highway east of Fallon.

Inside, the atmosphere is rustic and casual, with a classic diner counter and plenty of character. An on-site motel offers simple rooms if you want to start the next day here too.

Burgers made this place famous, including the Monster Burger Challenge. Still, the kitchen serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the doors open at 7 AM on weekdays and Saturdays.

Families will find high chairs and a kids’ menu. Dogs are allowed outside, parking is plentiful, and there is free Wi-Fi for checking the next leg of your route.

Reservations are not accepted, so just show up. Thursday mornings tend to be quieter if you want an easy seat.

4. Hotel Nevada Cafe & Diner, Ely, NV

Back in 1929, the Hotel Nevada opened its doors in Ely during the early days of motor travel. Nearly a century later, it still welcomes drivers coming off the Lincoln Highway.

The on-site Hotel Nevada Cafe & Diner is where breakfast happens. It focuses on classic roadside morning plates, the kind of hearty standards that set you up for a long day behind the wheel.

Hours are the big advantage here. The diner opens at 6 AM every day of the week and stays open until 11 PM, so early departures and late arrivals are both covered.

Ely makes a natural overnight stop on US-50, with long empty stretches in both directions. Grabbing breakfast in a historic hotel before heading back into the desert is a pretty great way to start the morning.

5. Border Inn Casino, Baker, NV

Straddling the Nevada and Utah line, Border Inn is the last stop or the first one, depending on which way you are driving US-50. Either way, it is a welcome sight after hours of open desert.

The property covers just about every need. There are 26 motel rooms, RV spots with full hookups, laundry, a convenience store, a gas station, and a small casino.

The restaurant is known for large portions and food made from scratch. That is a nice surprise at a place this remote.

Baker is also the gateway town for Great Basin National Park, so a hearty breakfast here works well before a day of exploring. Fill the tank, fill your plate, and head for the mountains.
