1. Fishkill Farms, Hopewell Junction, NY
Set at 9 Fishkill Farm Rd, this Hopewell Junction farm covers just about every box on a fall day trip checklist. You can pick apples, berries, and stone fruit depending on the season, then wander the shop that sells farm produce, donuts, and pies.
The cider donuts get a lot of attention here for good reason. They are made as you order, so they arrive fresh and warm, and they pair naturally with a cup of freshly made warm apple cider.
October is when things really come alive. Expect large selections of apples across many varieties, plenty of pumpkins, a corn maze, and hay rides that keep kids busy while the grownups load up on cider.
The farm is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 AM to 6 PM and closed on Mondays. There is a cider bar on site, along with free and paid parking options, so plan your visit around the weekend crowds if you want a calmer trip.
2. Hurds Family Farm, Modena, NY
Seven generations of the same family have worked this 125-acre orchard, which sits minutes from the thruway and about 1.5 hours north of New York City. That makes Modena an easy target for a day trip when the leaves start turning.
Fall is the headliner season here. You can pick your own apples and pumpkins, then reward yourself with cider donuts made fresh and served hot from the fryer.
There is more than fruit to keep you occupied. Outdoor rides, games, off-road tours, a corn maze, and animals to feed give kids and grandkids plenty to do, while a barn with views of the scenic Hudson Valley gives adults a spot to slow down.

3. Golden Harvest Farms, Valatie, NY
A longtime favorite along US-9 in Valatie, Golden Harvest Farms pairs U-pick apples with a farm shop stocked with the good stuff. You can gather apples, pears, cider, honey, and of course a bag of donuts on the same trip.
The cider donuts here have earned a serious reputation, and the fresh apple cider gets just as much love. Honeycrisp fans in particular tend to leave happy this time of year.
Beyond the fruit, the shop rounds out with pies and other treats, and the staff keep things friendly and helpful during the busy harvest rush.
Open every day from 9 AM to 6 PM, this stop makes an easy fall road trip anchor. It gets busiest on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and quietest on Wednesday evening, so time your visit accordingly.

4. Goold Hill Vineyard and Cidery, Castleton-On-Hudson, NY
History and reinvention share the same ground at Goold Hill, where a 116-year-old, 90-acre apple orchard now sits alongside 7,500 newly planted vineyard vines. The whole estate faces west toward sweeping views of the Catskill Mountains.
Picking your own apples here is a nice and easy process, and the payoff waits at the pay station. That setup offers hot, fresh cider donuts, fudge, and other treats, plus homemade pressed cider that tastes like the traditional kind you remember.
The property has seen recent renovations, giving the destination a polished new look as it grows into an agritourism spot with room for community gatherings. Just know that some of the treats and cider products come at higher prices than you might expect.
Hours run Wednesday and Thursday 4 to 9 PM, Friday 1 to 9 PM, Saturday 11:30 AM to 9 PM, and Sunday 11:30 AM to 6 PM, with Mondays and Tuesdays closed. Dogs are allowed, and parking is free and on site.
5. Critz Farms and Critz Farms Brewing & Cider Co., Cazenovia, NY
Few farms pack in as many things to do as this working operation in Cazenovia. Critz Farms is a diversified farm that folds together an apple orchard, blueberries, pumpkins, Christmas trees, maple syrup production, a cider mill, animals, and playgrounds.
The apple orchard opens for U-pick when the crop is ready, and the fall lineup adds pumpkin picking, hayrides, a maze, and a petting zoo. Playgrounds and nature trails stay open daily, which helps if the kids have energy to burn.
On the treat side, the apple cider comes perfectly spiced, and the apple cider donuts and fritters arrive warm and fresh. There is also a farm brewery, cidery, and a tap room that give the property a year-round draw.
Open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, the farm welcomes visitors from March through December, with activities shifting by season. Dogs are allowed, including inside, and there is plenty of free parking.
6. Smith’s Orchard Cider Mill, Lockport, NY
Out near Lockport, Smith’s Orchard Cider Mill keeps the whole experience refreshingly simple. You come out on weekends, pick some apples, watch the cider mill at work, grab a cider slush and a donut, and take home fresh pressed cider.
The donuts here come warm from the fryer, crispy on the outside and soft inside, and the prices are easy on the wallet. Cider comes in hot, cold, and slushy versions, so there is a version for whatever the weather is doing.
Because there is no corn maze or hayride circus, this stop appeals to people who just want the apples and the fryer without the extras. It is a straightforward, no-frills orchard trip.
The mill is open weekends only, Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 5 PM, starting around September 20. Credit cards are accepted, and parking is free.
7. Wickham Farms, Penfield, NY
Just outside Rochester in Penfield, Wickham Farms rolls a wagon ride right into the apple orchard, which makes the picking feel like part of the ride. Between the corn maze, mini-golf, and pumpkin patch, there is a full day of activity waiting.
Homemade donuts and cider are the sweet finish to a visit, and the apple selection for picking gives you real variety to choose from. The barn also serves ice cream and light eats if you want to make a meal of it.
One handy detail sets this place apart. You can grab apple cider shakes, donuts, kettle corn, fudge, and other desserts without paying the full entrance fee for the fenced activity area, which is nice if you are just after the treats.
Hours run Monday and Tuesday 10 AM to 7 PM and Thursday through Sunday 10 AM to 7 PM, with Wednesdays closed. Visit early or on a weekday to skip the busiest crowds.
