Grab a bucket, bring the family, and plan a weekend drive. Here are seven places worth the fall trip.
1. Kiyokawa Family Orchards, Mt Hood, OR
If you have ever wanted to taste an apple you cannot find in any store, this Mount Hood orchard is where the hunt gets fun. The u-pick fields carry a huge selection of apple and pear varieties, including harder-to-find names like Ashmead’s Kernels and Jonathan apples.
Beyond apples, the orchard grows pears, Asian pears, plums, and cherries earlier in the season. Many visitors call it the widest selection of apples, pears, and local fruit in the valley during harvest months.
There is a farm store on-site too, stocked with fruit plus extras like honey, jams, and candles. It makes for an easy stop even if you only want to browse rather than pick.
The setting sits at 5625 Hutson Dr, with free on-site parking and dogs allowed. Hours run 10 AM to 4 PM on weekdays and 9 AM to 5 PM on weekends, with picking going strong through October.

2. Sherwood Orchards, Sherwood, OR
Big on space and even bigger on choices, this Sherwood farm spreads across 26 acres with more than 1,300 fruit trees. That leaves plenty of room to wander and fill a bag at your own pace.
The variety list here goes well past apples, covering sweet cherries, pie cherries, plums, pears, quince, and persimmons. But the apple selection is the fall headliner, with lots of different types to pick straight from the branch yourself.
It is the kind of place people bring the whole crew, including kids and grandkids, for something like gathering apples for homemade apple butter. The u-pick model keeps prices friendly and the fruit as fresh as it gets.
You will find it at 23995 SW Pacific Hwy in Sherwood, an easy drive from the Portland area. September and October are prime apple months, so plan your visit while the trees are loaded.
3. Beilke Family Farm, Salem, OR
Short trees, tall fun. This Salem farm runs a 10-acre u-pick apple orchard with 18 varieties, and the dwarf trees are low enough that even little kids can pick without a ladder.
Running since 1950, the farm grows a lot more than apples. Depending on the season you will find tomatoes from a thousand plants, peppers, pears, prunes, watermelon, and a pumpkin patch, so a fall visit can turn into a full day.
Prices are a big draw, with Honeycrisp apples sold by the pound and plenty of educational signage explaining what you are picking. The grounds stay clean and organized, and there is a sunflower maze to explore too.
Apple season runs from the end of August to the end of November, with the pumpkin patch open September through November. Find it at 4925 Rockdale St NE, open Monday through Saturday 8 AM to 6 PM and Sunday 11 AM to 6 PM.
4. Mt View Orchards, Mt Hood, OR
Views and fruit share top billing at this Mount Hood orchard, where the trees fill the foreground and the mountain fills the sky. It is a large orchard made for slow wandering.
The u-pick lineup covers apples, pears, plums, and even flowers. Honeycrisp apples are a favorite here, and the farm also makes a pizza using its own pears, which is not something you see every day.
Fall visits tend to turn into little adventures, with apple and pear picking, a pumpkin patch, and open grounds to explore. The peaceful setting makes it easy to linger longer than you planned.
Located at 6670 Trout Creek Ridge Rd, the orchard is open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM. September and October are the sweet spot, so bring a camera along with your picking bucket.
5. Detering Orchards, Harrisburg, OR
Freshly squeezed apple juice is one of the reasons this Harrisburg orchard stands out, since it is one of the few places in the area outside Lane County where you can get it. That alone makes the drive worthwhile.
The property is big, with lots of trees and bushes for u-pick and a wide mix of varieties. You can pick your own apples and pears or grab fruit that has already been freshly harvested from their local properties.
Prices land around $1.12 per pound, and the mix-and-match approach means you can sample several types in one trip. The farm stand also carries plenty of other fresh fruits and veggies.
One quick tip: for u-pick apples, head to the counter first to grab a bucket and register. Open for the season starting June 1 and running daily 9 AM to 5 PM, the orchard sits at 30946 Wyatt Dr, with September and October the peak apple stretch.
6. Bells Orchard, Beaverton, OR
Small and simple is the whole point here. This Beaverton orchard runs at a modest scale, with about ten parking spaces and plenty of wagons ready for hauling fruit out of the rows.
The u-pick offerings are peaches, apples, and pears when each is in season. Come fall, the apples turn plentiful and reasonably priced, and the pears keep the baskets filling too.
A quiet fall morning here can add up fast, like the 20 pounds of Honeycrisp some folks walk away with. The low-key atmosphere is exactly what draws people who want to pick their own fruit without a big crowd.
Check the hours before you go, since the orchard keeps a limited schedule: Wednesday 3 to 7 PM, Friday 9 AM to 2 PM, and Saturday 9 AM to 4 PM, with other days closed. You will find it at 24350 SW Farmington Rd, with free on-site parking.
7. True North Orchards, Salem, OR
Skip the bull rides and big commercial crowds. This husband-and-wife-run Salem orchard leans into the calm, especially for families with young kids who just want to pick apples and enjoy a picnic.
The u-pick selection includes apples, plums, pears, and grapes. Apple prices stay friendly, and the farm store rounds things out with garlic, apple cider, and a range of juices.
What really sets this stop apart is the craft side of the farm. There are more than 25 unique small-batch products made on-site, including things like pumpkin honey, carrot honey, blackberry honey, and a sparkling apple cider.
It is an easy add-on if you are already out near Silver Falls and want to end the day with a bag of apples. Located at 5650 Lardon Rd NE, the farm is open Thursday through Saturday 9 AM to 6 PM and Sunday 12 to 5 PM, with dogs welcome and free parking.
