Some Of Ohio's Best Apple Cider Comes From These 7 Family Orchards Pressing It Fresh

When fall rolls into Ohio, nothing beats a cold jug of apple cider that was pressed just down the road. The best stuff comes from family orchards that have been growing apples for generations, not from a factory line.

These seven spots each press their own cider fresh, and every one has its own personality, its own apple mix, and its own reason to make the drive. Grab a napkin for the donuts and let’s take a tour of where Ohio’s finest cider is made.

1. Quarry Hill Orchards – Berlin Heights, OH

Out in Berlin Heights, this family-run orchard leans hard into that country-store feeling. The market barn is the heart of it all, where you can grab pick-your-own apples, seasonal produce, and fresh baked goods under one roof.

The cider here has earned a loyal following, and it pairs perfectly with the caramel apples they turn out. You will also find plenty of fresh produce, right down to sweet corn when it is in season.

Dog owners get a bonus. Pups are welcome inside, and the resident farm dogs add to the friendly, easygoing vibe.

Doors are open seven days a week from 9 AM to 6 PM, with free parking in the lot and along the street. There is a restroom on site too.

If you want a low-key farm stop with real hospitality and a cup of cider handed to you at the door, this one delivers. Find it at 8403 Mason Rd #1 in Berlin Heights.

2. Branstool Orchards, Utica, OH

Peaches, apples, and pears all grow here in Utica, which makes Branstool a bit of a triple threat among orchards. The farm market rounds things out with fresh donuts made daily.

Come fall, the cider presses get busy. They press unpasteurized apple cider that fans line up for, and it pairs beautifully with their apple cider doughnuts and fry pies.

The apple lineup is built for people who actually cook. They sell a smart mixture of varieties meant for cider, pie, and applesauce, so you can plan a whole afternoon in the kitchen.

Families get plenty here too. There is a play area for kids, wagons for hauling your haul, and a pick-your-own setup where filling a bag turns into an event.

You will also find pumpkins, gourds, and fall decor once the season turns. Note the schedule: closed Mondays, then open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM.

The address is 5895 Johnstown-Utica Rd NE in Utica.

3. Burnham Orchards, Berlin Heights, OH

Two centuries of apple-growing is not something most orchards can claim. Burnham has been at it for 209 years and is now run by the seventh generation of the same family, which is about as rooted as Ohio farming gets.

The cider selection is where they really stand out. You can pick from a large lineup of fresh cider, including a honeycrisp cider that runs a little less sweet than the standard jug most places pour.

Beyond the cider jugs, the market stocks fresh baked goods, cookies, produce, pumpkins, and shelf-stable items you can take home. The cookies have their own devoted crowd.

Prices stay affordable, and the family takes visible pride in the quality of the fruit. Hours run Monday through Saturday 9 AM to 6 PM, with Sunday from noon to 5:30 PM.

You will find Burnham at 8019 OH-113 East in Berlin Heights, just a short hop from Quarry Hill if you want to make a cider-tasting day of it.

4. MacQueen Orchards, Holland, OH

Over in Holland near Toledo, MacQueen has turned the apple into a full experience. The family business pairs its fruit with a bakery, fresh cider, and a gift shop, so you rarely leave with just one bag.

The fresh-pressed cider is the headliner, and it goes hand in hand with their donuts and homemade apple butter. On a cold day, warm apple fritters and hot cider make the whole trip worthwhile.

Value is part of the appeal too. A bushel of apples runs reasonably, which is good news if you are stocking up for pies.

Speaking of which, the apple pies here have their own following.

It works whether you bring the kids or come solo for a quick treat run. The place is open every day from 9 AM to 6 PM, with a restroom on site.

Weekends and Sunday afternoons get busy, so early mornings or weekday evenings are your calm window. Look for it at 7605 Garden Rd in Holland.

5. Bauman Orchards Inc, Rittman, OH

Since 1929, Bauman has been growing and selling fresh produce in Rittman, and the numbers behind it are impressive. What started as 18 acres now covers more than 117, including 20,000 apple trees and 3,000 peach trees.

That scale means variety. The orchard features 25 kinds of apples and 15 kinds of peaches, along with plums and sweet corn as the seasons shift.

The cider operation runs long here. Their presses stay busy from September through May, so fresh cider is available well past the usual fall rush.

Inside the farm market you will also find homemade pies, cookies, and ready-made gift baskets, plus the fixings to build your own. The grounds are neatly kept and the fruit is clearly well cared for.

It feels like a genuine family operation in a landscape full of big-box stores, which is exactly why people keep coming back. Hours are Monday through Friday 8 AM to 6 PM, Saturday 8 AM to 5 PM, closed Sunday.

Free parking sits right out front at 161 Rittman Ave.

6. Irons Fruit Farm, Lebanon, OH

Down in Lebanon, Irons has built a reputation on apples that keep their fans loyal. The honeycrisp and melrose varieties in particular have a way of standing out year after year.

The cider, though, is what turns first-timers into regulars. It has convinced more than a few Amish-country cider loyalists to switch their allegiance, which is no small feat in this part of the state.

Part of the charm is how welcoming the place feels, run by a family that treats a farm visit like a visit with relatives. That warmth is a big reason people keep the tradition going.

Dogs are allowed inside, and parking is free whether you use the lot or the street. The farm is open every day from 9 AM to 6 PM.

If you are in the Warren County area and want top-notch apples with cider that punches above its weight, point the car toward 1640 Stubbs Mills Rd in Lebanon.

7. Patterson Fruit Farm, Chesterland, OH

Set in Chesterland east of Cleveland, Patterson gives you two orchard locations for pick-your-own, covering both apples and strawberries. That flexibility makes it a spot worth returning to across the growing season.

The general store is the real draw for cider seekers. Alongside fresh apple cider, you will find their own maple syrup, freshly baked apple fritters, donuts, and pies that keep the parking lot full.

There is more than just fruit and baked goods too. The shop carries honey, jams, breads, other produce, and a selection of unique gifts.

Location adds a bonus. The farm sits next to a redeveloped area with hiking trails and a park, so you can pair cider and donuts with a walk in the fresh air.

Plan a quick visit and you will be in and out easily, though weekends and Sunday afternoons draw the biggest crowds. Weekday mornings are the quiet stretch.

Patterson is open daily from 9 AM to 6 PM at 11414 Caves Rd in Chesterland.
