The 10 Overhyped Food Trends That Should Disappear 1

Some food trends take the world by storm. But honestly, some just need to be stormed out. Over the years, we have seen them all go into our feeds, and admit it, you wanted to try them out too. From over-the-top gimmicks to questionable flavor mashups, not every viral dish deserves a spot on your plate. Here are 10 food trends that may have had their moment but seriously need to disappear for good.

10. Bacon-Wrapped Everything

While bacon is our guilty pleasure, it’s better to eat it as is than wrap it in everything that you eat. Hot dogs with bacon may be forgivable as they go together, but do you really want those bacon-wrapped veggies or bacon-wrapped scallops? Believe it or not, there’s also bacon-wrapped chocolates! It’s time to put this trend to rest now and just bring back the way we used to enjoy bacon, which is a sandwich or burger filling.

9. Unicorn Food

If you thought this trend was over, think again. Recently, SONIC introduced the Unicorn Dreams Slush, a cotton candy slush with blueberry bubbles and cloud topping with cotton candy sugar crystals. Yup, that’s sugar overload. These so-called Unicorn Foods also come in rainbow-colored food; we don’t just see them in desserts! The unicorn trend includes rainbow bagels, pasta, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Seriously, not every food needs to be unicorn-themed.

8. Deconstructed Food

We often relate Deconstructed Food to fine-dining cuisine. It usually consists of a dish where the ingredients are separated, making up a small portion of the food on a plate. While we do appreciate the art, not everything needs to be deconstructed. Some of us find it impractical or confusing, like, are we eating the same cheesecake where you separated the cheese, crumbs, syrup, and fruits?

7. Digital Menus

You’ve probably been to restaurants where you had to scan the QR code to see the menu and order. While we agree that we must keep up with modern times, some things are better left untouched. Whatever happened to a good, old by-the-counter or a waiter taking your order? It takes a lot of time with technological issues and missing menu items.

6. Over-The-Top Milkshakes

Seriously, whoever finishes those Over-The-Top Milkshakes? You may have seen one of these on Instagram or TikTok. They are those milkshakes in mason jars with toppings like a cone, donut, cake pops, all glued together by a huge whipped cream. That’s lethargic caused by a sugar rush waiting to happen!

5. Food Made with Cheetos

Who doesn’t love Cheetos? They’re the perfect snack whenever you want to munch on something. But to add it to a home-cooked meal? That’s not it. You may have stumbled upon an easy Cheetos recipe where they used a bag of Cheetos to create mac and cheese or even a casserole. Even Milk Bar used to offer a Cheetos x Milk Bar cake! You wouldn’t want junk food in your meal or dessert, right?

4. Stacked Burgers

Two patties may be forgivable, but more than that is just too much. Burgers are meant to be enjoyed as something you can hold with your hand and bite. Stacked burgers, whether patties or other fillings, won’t make you enjoy your burger. Not to mention, they’re too messy to eat.

3. Mashed Potato Chips

It all started with one TikToker and was followed through with different users trying to recreate Mashed Potato Chips. Yup, they use Pringles, Lay’s, Doritos, name it! It’s just like the Cheetos food; it’s disgusting because when you think about it, you’re trying to make a home-cooked meal out of a processed bag of chips. You can always get potatoes anywhere, so why don’t we stick to that?

2. Avocado on Everything

We get it; we’re already living in a health-conscious era, which is good. However, we may need to tone down on the Avocado on Everything. It all started with a harmless avocado on toast breakfast, which later turned into avocado burgers, eggs, pasta, and even avocado fries! Let’s face it, there are even more tasty fruits out there that deserve to have an “on everything” trend.

1. Matcha Flavored Food

Yup, we’re seeing another pumpkin spice everything phenomenon. Matcha as a drink is amazing, and we can accept a little upgrade like ice cream and a shake. But to add it to other food? Now that’s too much! A trip to your local cafe and grocery store would shower you with everything, like cookies and cake containing very little matcha. It gets crazier from there as there’s matcha ramen, curry, and even a burger!
