Every Georgian has an opinion about biscuits, and most of those opinions start with somebody’s grandmother. A good one should be tall, tender inside, and sturdy enough to hold fried chicken or a ladle of gravy.
The eight places below take that job seriously, from a Macon cafe dating to 1959 to a mountain town counter in Blue Ridge. Save this list for your next road trip, lazy Saturday, or serious breakfast craving.
1. Bomb Biscuit Atlanta, Atlanta, GA

Weekend mornings on Memorial Drive usually come with a wait, and the reason is baked fresh behind the counter. Bomb Biscuit Atlanta serves its biscuit breakfast Wednesday through Sunday, so plan around those Monday and Tuesday closures.
The biscuits here are big, flaky, and buttery, with a soft, moist crumb that many compare to a family recipe. The Dirty Bird Fried Chicken Biscuit is the headliner, while the Lemon Pepper Chicken Biscuit gives a nod to one of Atlanta’s favorite flavors.
Not in a chicken mood? Biscuits-N-Gravy, Hashbrown Casserole, Maple Butter Chicken and Waffles, and the Special OG Cinnamon Rolls round things out.
I also like that the menu makes room for everyone. There is a gluten free biscuit plus full vegan and vegetarian options, which is rare for a Southern biscuit shop.
Hours run 9 AM to 2 PM Wednesday through Friday and 9 AM to 3 PM on weekends. Brunch reservations are recommended, and Wednesday or Thursday mornings tend to be calmer.
2. Honeysuckle Biscuits & Bakery Kennesaw, Kennesaw, GA

Cupcakes and cheesecake share the display case, but biscuits are the true specialty at this cute Kennesaw bakery on South Main Street. They come out huge, with a crisp, buttery outside and a soft, flaky middle.
The bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit is a popular pick, and the Chicken Sausage Biscuit and Bacon Biscuit keep things classic. Pair one with a cortado or a pecan praline latte for a solid morning combo.
Sweet tooth folks can grab cake donuts, flaky pastries, or a slice of apple caramel cheesecake. Custom cakes are available too.
Doors open daily from 7:30 AM to 5 PM, which is generous for a biscuit shop. Weekdays are quieter, there is free parking and wi-fi, and curbside pickup makes it an easy stop on a busy day.
3. Pastries A Go Go, Decatur, GA

Cathead biscuits get their name for being about the size of one, and the ones at Pastries A Go Go in downtown Decatur live up to it. They are massive, fluffy, and served with jam or built into a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich.
Whole Biscuits and Gravy and the Traditional Southern Breakfast are the hearty choices. Croissant lovers can swap in flaky layers for the same sandwich, and eggs Benedict on a croissant is a house signature.
Arrive early if the sticky buns and cinnamon rolls are on your mind, since they tend to sell out. The dessert case also carries sugar cookies and special occasion cakes.
Hours are 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM, reservations are not taken, and parking is usually easy. Dogs are welcome on the outdoor seating.
4. Big City Bread Cafe, Athens, GA

Housemade bread is right there in the name, so it makes sense that this family-run Athens cafe bakes a biscuit people come back to town for. The kitchen leans on locally sourced ingredients and pairs its biscuits with thick-cut bacon, scrambled eggs, and potatoes with aioli.
These biscuits run on the dense side, which suits a loaded sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich. Quiche, French toast, and a French Ham and Cheese are also on the table.
The patio is a big part of the appeal, with wildflowers on the tables and room for dogs. College students, families, and laptop workers all share the space.
Lines can be long, but food moves quickly. Weekend hours end at 2 PM, while weekdays stretch to 9 PM, and parking can be tricky on North Finley Street.
5. Plucked Up | Chicken & Biscuits, Columbus, GA

Jalapeno jam on a chicken biscuit is the kind of move that wins over a whole downtown. Plucked Up in Columbus serves its chicken with a slight kick inside exposed brick walls on 1st Avenue.
The biscuits are big and fluffy with a lightly crisp outside. The buffalo chicken biscuit balances heat and sweet, and Fried Chicken and Sweet Biscuits plays with the same idea.
The menu gets creative, too. French Toast Biscuits, a Biscuit Benedict, Chicken Pot Pie, and Chicken and Grits all show up, and the white cheddar grits come in generous portions.
Collard greens make a strong side if you want a full Southern plate. Service is quick, reservations are accepted, and parking is usually plentiful.
Hours are 7 AM to 3 PM Monday through Saturday. It is closed Sundays, so plan any after-church biscuit runs elsewhere.
6. H&H Soul Food Restaurant, Macon, GA

Macon history is served with breakfast at H&H, a daytime cafe dating to around 1959 on Forsyth Street. The walls carry a mural and rock memorabilia, a nod to the city’s music roots.
Biscuits here are made fresh, golden, and flaky. The open-face biscuit with gravy is a standout, and the Midnight Rider biscuit adds a fun musical touch to the menu.
Ask for the homemade berry jam, since it pairs well with both the biscuits and cornbread. A plate of biscuits and gravy with bacon and two scrambled eggs has run around $15.
Lunch shifts to soul food like fried chicken, collard greens, and rice and gravy, with bread pudding for dessert. It opens at 7 AM on weekdays and 8 AM on weekends, closing at 3 PM daily, with no reservations.
7. Bigfoot Biscuit, Blue Ridge, GA

A mountain getaway to Blue Ridge calls for a biscuit sighting before lunch, and Bigfoot Biscuit on West Main Street is where to track one down. The window is short, since it serves from 8 AM to 1 PM Tuesday through Sunday.
The biscuits have a crunchy outside and a soft, fluffy center, fresh and buttery on their own. The fillings push them further, especially the Henderson-style biscuit with Nashville hot chicken.
Tater tots make the go-to side. Ordering happens at the counter, and outdoor seating lets dogs join the trip.
I would save this one for the first morning of a North Georgia weekend. Parking is usually easy, and fast service gets you back to exploring town quickly.
8. Rise Southern Biscuits Righteous Chicken – Savannah, Savannah, GA

Blueberry and sausage on one biscuit sounds odd until you try it. At Rise on West Broughton Street, the Glazed Blueberry Biscuit topped with sausage has become a favorite order in historic downtown Savannah.
The Righteous Chicken Biscuit and Righteous Chicken Box cover the savory side, along with hot honey butter chicken, chix and grits, and southern chicken salad. Biscuits are big and moist enough to skip condiments.
Seasoned tots and pimento cheese make good add-ons, and the donuts are worth a detour on their own. A full vegetarian menu is available too.
This counter-serve spot is open daily from 7 AM to 2 PM without reservations. Paid street parking is the norm downtown, so walking over from your hotel is often simplest.
