Head of FDA Quizzed on How Safe Our Food Is by Congress

Hi everyone! We have some important news for you today regarding food safety and the safety of the little ones in our families in general.

Next week, the commissioner of the Food and Drug Association, Robert Califf, is scheduled to testify in a hearing conducted by the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Accountability. For those who want to tune in, the meeting will be held on April 1, 2024 at 1 p.m. EDT and will be livestreamed online at https://oversight.house.gov/.

One of the main agendas of the hearing would be addressing the outbreak of cronobacter infections from Abbott’s baby formula. Last year, Abbott Laboratories had to take their baby formula off shelves because of this crisis and stirred up a lot of trouble for concerned parents who regularly use this product on their children.

They would also touch upon topics on general food safety concerns with committee chairman, James Comer, expressing his displeasure with the FDA’s mishandling of last year’s crisis. We all know that prevention is better than cure so the chairman said that they could’ve done a better job preventing the problems before they even happen. He said that he would impose a stronger ruling that would make sure that the FDA takes every measure needed in order to keep our food safe.

Stay tuned for more updates on this hearing, because what they talk about could affect all of us. Let’s all do our part and keep an eye on their decision since it will affect how we keep our meals safe every day.

That’s it for this bit of food news! Remember to stay informed so that we can all ensure our safety. Keep enjoying your meals and stay safe everyone!
