Thanksgiving dessert is serious business in Pennsylvania, and the best pies often come from places you only find by driving the back roads. Some sit right on old Route 30, while others share space with orchards, berry fields, and farm markets.
This list covers six spots where you can grab a pumpkin, apple, shoofly, or cream pie before the big day. Save it, send it to whoever is bringing dessert, and plan your detour now.
1. The Pie Shoppe, Laughlintown, PA

Route 30 through the Laurel Highlands has plenty of scenery, but the pie stop is what many travelers plan around. The Pie Shoppe sits at 1379 US-30 in Laughlintown, a small and very busy bakery with a homespun feel.
The case is packed with pies, pastries, cookies, and cakes. Lemon meringue is a standout, and the mini egg custard pies and pastry snails are fun extras to toss in the bag.
Before Thanksgiving, the pumpkin pie is the one to grab. It has a reputation in the area as the kind of pumpkin pie that can quietly outshine the family recipe.
Hours are generous, 7 AM to 5 PM every day, and coffee is available for the road. Weekday mornings are the calmest time to visit, since Saturdays and Sunday afternoons get crowded.
2. Dutch Haven Shoo-Fly Pie Bakery, Ronks, PA

Dating back to 1946, Dutch Haven has been handing out shoofly pie to Lancaster County visitors for generations. If you have never tried the molasses filling with crumb topping, this is a friendly place to start.
Staff offer free samples, which makes choosing a little easier. Beyond the signature shoofly, the shelves include chocolate pecan pie and whoopie pies, plus homemade root beer.
The shop doubles as a quirky gift stop, with Pennsylvania Dutch spices, pickled goods, carved wood pieces, and Amish souvenirs. It is takeout only, so plan to carry your pie home.
Find it at 2857 Lincoln Hwy in Ronks. Hours run 10 AM to 6 PM most weekdays, later on Fridays and Saturdays, and it is closed Wednesdays, so plan around that before the holiday rush.
3. Sand Hill Berries, Mt Pleasant, PA

Berries in the name, pies on the counter. Sand Hill Berries is a picturesque farm store on Deerfield Road outside Mt Pleasant, and its homemade pies have earned a loyal following.
The farm is best known for fresh berries, so fruit pies are a natural fit here. People often leave with a couple of pies at once, which is smart thinking when you have a big table to feed.
The setting is pure Westmoreland County countryside, a pleasant change from crowded holiday stores. Restrooms are available on site.
Hours are Monday through Saturday 10 AM to 6 PM and Sunday noon to 5 PM. Weekday mornings tend to be quiet, a handy tip for Thanksgiving week.
4. Tabora Farm & Orchard, Chalfont, PA

Banana cream pie can be surprisingly hard to track down, and that alone makes Tabora Farm a useful stop in holiday season. This Bucks County orchard has a bakery, deli counter, and coffee bar under one roof.
The bakery case covers Danish, cream-filled donuts, apple cider donuts, blueberry scones, carrot cupcakes, and cheerful happy face cookies. Jam and in-season produce round things out.
It sits on Upper Stump Road near Peace Valley Park, so a walk before picking up dessert is easy to work in. Sandwiches from the deli make it a full lunch stop too.
Tabora is open daily from 7 AM to 7 PM, with pickup and curbside options. Saturday mornings are busiest, so I would aim for a weekday.
5. Way Fruit Farm, Port Matilda, PA

Out in Halfmoon Valley, west of State College, the pies at Way Fruit Farm often start in the farm’s own fields. The bakery leans on locally harvested fruit, which shows in what lands on the shelf.
Apple walnut pie is a favorite worth hunting for in fall. The on-site cafe also serves fresh baked goods and prepared foods, and the market carries seasonal produce.
Families come for seasonal fruit picking too, so it works as a quick outing as well as a pie run. Free parking and restrooms make it easy.
Hours are Monday through Friday 9 AM to 7 PM and Saturday 8 AM to 5 PM. It is closed Sundays, so do not save this one for the last weekend scramble.
6. Soergel Orchards, Wexford, PA

Plenty of Pittsburgh-area families already have a Thanksgiving tradition here: picking up pies from Soergel Orchards. The market on Brandt School Road in Wexford pairs fresh produce with an on-site bakery.
Dutch apple pie is a well-loved pick, and the produce prices make it easy to grab sides while you are there. One trip can cover dessert and part of dinner.
Soergel’s is open every day from 9 AM to 6 PM. Weekends get busy in the afternoon, so a weekday visit is the smoother play.
Wherever your detour takes you, a Pennsylvania farm or roadside pie is a simple way to make the holiday table feel a little more local.
