Hello food lovers and safety supporters! We’ve got some exciting news to share that’s all about keeping our food safe and yummy.
Recently, a big organization that looks after food and farming all over the world, called the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and a famous food company named Mars, decided to join hands again. They want to work together to make sure the food we eat is safe and healthy.
Maximo Torero, who knows a lot about how food and money work together, at FAO, and Dr. Abigail Stevenson, a top scientist at Mars, made an agreement. They’re going to use special rules known as Codex Alimentarius to improve how we handle food safety.
FAO and Mars have an important job to do – they will make sure corn doesn’t get sick from something called mycotoxins, which are not good for it. They’ll swap important info about new food safety tricks and technology trends to keep our plates safe.
Maximo Torero says it’s super important to use good science and work together with companies like Mars to keep our food systems strong and ready for anything.
Mars and FAO have been buddies since 2015. They share what they know to help others make smart choices about food safety and teach more people how to keep food safe.
Dr. Abigail Stevenson is excited because they can use science to make sure everyone has food that’s good for them. They have plans to teach companies more about these safety rules, like how to keep food allergies in check and stop mycotoxins from getting into corn.
By doing these things, FAO will be even better at spotting food risks early and keeping us healthy.
In other good news, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) are teaming up for ten years! They will focus on keeping food safe worldwide and teach people how to handle food risks better. They also want to help countries where people don’t have as much money make their food safer and healthier.
Francesco Branca from WHO says it’s really, really important to help these countries sort out food problems and get better at food safety and staying healthy.
That’s all the juicy info for now! Remember, food safety is a big deal, and it’s great when the big players work together to keep our meals safe. Stay tuned for more tasty updates!
